Postdoctoral Fellow in Clinical Psychology

Seagrass Psychoeducational Solutions LLC
Bluffton, SC Full Time
POSTED ON 2/28/2024

Clinical Psychology Postdoctoral Opportunity

This position is offered through a growing outpatient group psychology private practice setting that is committed to patient care, and teaching/training qualified individuals to be prepared to function independently as licensed psychologists. Training emphasizes both depth and breadth of knowledge in assessment and therapy with a broad variety of patient populations spanning the age spectrum from preschool aged children through adults. Populations served include patients with suspected neurodevelopmental disorders such as Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, and Autism Spectrum Disorder, as well as learning disorders such as dyslexia and mood and anxiety disorders. Referrals come from pediatricians/primary care physicians, private schools, and other mental health clinicians. The postdoc will have the opportunity to provide evaluation services and therapy to patients in the outpatient setting with the expectation that a focus of this work would be on Autism Spectrum Disorder evaluation and related treatment.

The postdoctoral position is a one-year commitment in which the primary emphasis is on the development of clinical skills and knowledge. A majority of time is spent engaging in direct patient care, report writing/documentation, and clinical supervision, although administrative duties may also be assigned. The training approach is an apprenticeship model under which the trainee is supervised closely during the first few months with increasing autonomy as the trainee gains the skills and knowledge to function independently. Trainees are involved in interviewing and assessing patients, reviewing relevant records, report writing, providing feedback to patients and their families, consulting with referral sources, and using test results to provide recommendations to assist with therapeutic interventions. Trainees will also be involved with developing treatment plans for therapy patients and providing parent training. There may be opportunities to provide group therapy as well as educational talks to local schools (teachers) and parents.

Supervision is provided at least one hour weekly including formal scheduled supervision, although initially supervision occurs more often informally includes daily discussions regarding patients assigned to the trainee. Frequent informal supervision as well as feedback regarding interactions with patients and written work will also be given. The emphasis in supervision is placed on effective selection of appropriate tests, integrated conceptualization of test data leading to diagnoses and recommendations for interventions, and effective communication of test results in written and verbal formats. For therapy cases, supervision will be focused on case conceptualization, developing an effective treatment plan and teaching and utilizing evidence-based models of therapeutic intervention.

Applicants must have graduated from a clinical or school psychology doctoral program which includes formal training in psychological assessment of children and adults, including standardized test administration and scoring, interpretation, and report writing. Applicants with practicum/field-experiences and internships providing opportunities to engage in counseling is also highly preferred. Applicants should submit the following:

1. A one-page cover letter describing your experience in assessment and therapy along with your interest in the position.

2. Curriculum Vitae

3. Two de-identified psychological reports

4. An official graduate transcript mailed or emailed from your graduate institution

5. Three letters of recommendation, with at least one from your training supervisor from your graduate program and one from your supervisor from your internship.

The application deadline is rolling and decisions may be made if the right candidate is found. The start date is negotiable but expected no later than August 15, 2024. Please send all materials, if possible, in one PDF format to:
