Summary:
The Systems Administrator will provide Server OS (mainly Wintel) installs, upgrades, patching, maintenance and support in a heavily industrialized facility environment. This individual will apply communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve server issues in order to maximize the benefit of IT server investments. Also, the individual will apply a strong work ethic and customer service focus. The position reports to the Server Administrator Team Manager located in Pittsburgh, PA – as part of the USS IT – ITO organization.
Location: The facility needing support are located at U. S. Steel’s Mon Valley Works, located in West Mifflin, Clairton and Braddock, PA. Physical Addresses: U. S. Steel – Mon Valley Works, Irvin Plant, Camp Hollow Road, West Mifflin, PA 15122. Major Responsibilities: The Systems Administrator is responsible for supporting the physical and virtual server environments, the facility’s computer rooms, the computer room’s UPS equipment, and may be asked to assist with other general IT infrastructure technology functions at the facilities. Safety is the Core Value of U.S. Steel; the Systems Administrator will make Safety the first priority in the execution of all work, and from time to time - will be required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). The successful candidate will have a detailed knowledge of server technologies and their application in an enterprise environment. The list of responsibilities includes: Technical • Analyze day-to-day functions and processes of servers and operating systems - including interaction with application software and database resources to ensure the servers are performing within predetermined guidelines, limits, and specifications. Experience with SolarWinds SNMP monitoring is a plus.
Strategy & Planning • Assist in the planning, design, development, of new solutions and enhancements to existing server implementations. Acquisition & Deployment • Assist in the deployment of new servers and enhancements to existing servers. Operational Management • Assist with the development and implementation of an Emergency Action Plan for Server recovery. • Create server installation and upgrade proposals. Minimum Requirements: • 2-4 years experience supporting an enterprise network, or equivalent experience preferred • Experience implementing and maintaining NetApp storage, VMware, ESXI, and VEEAM solutions. • Data Center Facilities Management skills, including UPS, power distribution, fire suppression, HVAC, structured cabling and related technologies. Education: • Bachelors Degree required or university degree in the field of computer science and/or 4 years equivalent work experience.
