JOB TITLE:  Secondary Counseling Support Specialist, 1.0 FTE

REPORTS TO:  Building Administrators

 

JOB SUMMARY: This position serves to directly impact outcomes of college and career related services, working collaboratively with administrative and counseling staff to support students to these outcomes. This position directly supports our District priority of equitable and inclusive practices and ensuring students are on track to graduate and supported in preparing a plan beyond high school. This position acts as the ASPIRE program coordinator. 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Criminal history clearance (background check and HB 2062).
  3. Ability to establish positive working relationships with students, staff and parents.
  4. Proficient in a variety of computer/technology skills and ability to learn new programs.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Bachelor’s degree.
  2. Spanish speaker.

SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Support counseling staff with credit checks and on-track progress.
  2. Track students with deficient academic progress across grade levels and share with counselors for intervention.
  3. Provide support with schedule completion and changes during term transitions.
  4. Facilitates PSAT/ASVAB tests, providing appropriate feedback for career awareness and college preparedness. 
  5. Supports the local scholarship process. 
  6. Works closely with school counseling staff to provide comprehensive guidance for post-secondary options.
  7. Recruits parent/community member volunteers, facilitates volunteer training, manages counseling volunteers, and oversees their work with students.
  8. Researches college application processes & trends to provide up-to-date and accurate information to students. 
  9. Plans guidance field trips to schools, colleges, and industry specific job sites for interested students.
  10. Assists students, individually or in small groups, in college planning and preparation.
  11. Coordinate the ASPIRE program, including volunteer recruiting and training, record keeping, communication with staff, students, and families, and keeping ASPIRE curriculum and resources current.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  Reports all days that students are in attendance.  Salary (code 8) with excellent benefits package.  Starting: As soon as possible
