Salary Range for this position is $68,101/yr. to $93,979/yr.
Position open until filled/Initial review of application materials will begin on Monday, 5/13/2024.
This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement with representation by AFT-SPS.
This position is typically scheduled to work Monday through Friday 8:00AM to 5:00PM. The schedule may vary depending on program needs. May be required to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Position Summary
While working in close coordination with the Seattle College's Foundation Director of Communications, the Associate Director of Communications and Alumni Relations will be a key member of a team that builds added awareness of the Equity Can’t Wait campaign and its accomplishments, which tightly align with the Seattle Colleges’ commitment to being an exemplary learning institution that transformslives, promotes equity, and enriches the community.
What you will be working on:
Communications & Community Relations

  • Digital/social presence: Raise visibility of Seattle Colleges Foundation and its Equity Can’t Wait campaign by enhancing and maintaining website, social media platforms, and newsletters.
  • Storytelling: In line with broader communications strategy, identify, interview and produce written and visual content highlighting stories of Seattle Colleges students, alumni, and faculty. (At times this may involve supervision of contractors).
  • Event support: Advance the Foundation’s event strategy by, along with teammates, developing programs and materials, drafting talking points and scripts, and creating communications to guests, donors, and sponsors.
  • Volunteer engagement: Support recruitment, training and engagement of volunteers involved in the Foundation’s work, including scholarship reviewers.

Campus & Alumni Engagement

  • Internal communications: Raise and sustain awareness and enthusiasm for the Foundation’s work among stakeholders at the Colleges by helping with regular, strategic updates on topics including:
  • Foundation strategy, and how we’re executing it.
  • New Foundation-funded programs, initiatives, and personnel.
  • Scholarship recipients and their stories.
  • Alumni and retiree relations: Develop and grow formal alumni and retiree engagement programs at North, South and Central campuses. Includes:
  • Regularly communicating with alumni and retirees about the Foundation’s work, including opportunities to be part of scholarship outreach and review.
  • Managing work-study and/or an hourly part-time position on each campus to implement programming that fits with each campus identity.
  • Conscientously maintaining contact info for alumni and retirees in partnership with the Database Manager & Workforce team.
  • Teaming with the Legacy Giving team on a retiree appreciation/exit protocol.

Annual Fundraising & Stewardship

  • Recommend and help develop/execute mass cultivation/fundraising approaches for different annual-fund constituencies (e.g. alumni, employees, retirees). With database manager and other staff, develop appropriate lists.
  • Flag individuals whom, because of history or capacity, may benefit from personal cultivation. Do this cultivation or place them in the portfolio of the major gifts team.
  • Liaise with Scholarship team to ensure reports on impacts from specific scholarships reach their donors.
  • Support development of endowment and annual reports.

What you bring as a candidate:
(Any Equivalent Combination of Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Education and Experience)

  • Genuine enthusiasm and entrepreneurial energy around the work of the Seattle Colleges Foundation and the Seattle Colleges, particularly expanding educational equity.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
  • At least two years of progressively responsible experience in marketing, fundraising (or both).
  • Strong writing talent, including the ability to work on deadline.
  • Solid graphic design skills, or a willingness to quickly learn.
  • A positive outlook and excellent interpersonal skills, including respect and sensitivity in dealings with people from a broad spectrum of cultural, socioeconomic and academic backgrounds.
  • Experience managing complex and time-sensitive processes while exercising discretion and independent judgment.
  • Ability to multitask at a high level of competency and accuracy.
  • Comfort in a team environment, along with (situationally) the capacity to be self-directed and work independently.
  • Proficiency in the use of Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Acrobat.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with donor database software (ideally Raiser's Edge).
  • Experience with email marketing tools (ideally Mailchimp).
  • Experience with page layout software (ideally InDesign).

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to perform range of physical motions, exerting up to 25 pounds; lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds; standing, walking, sitting for long periods of time, kneeling, squatting, and stooping; and traversing up and down stairs.
