About the Position

The District Asset Protection Manager is responsible for all Asset Protection, Loss Prevention, Security and Safety related issues within an assigned geographic area of responsibility. The position seeks to enhance organizational profitability, prevent loss of organizational assets, to control shrinkage and loss from both internal and external causes, and assist in driving a culture of safety.

This role detects, investigates, and deters individuals attempting to misappropriate organizational assets, communicates and trains AP programs, ensures operational compliance and safety audits are conducted, actively participates in physical inventories, and monitors adherence to established inventory processes. The area of assignment is determined by the Senior Director of Asset Protection and may include, but is not limited to, retail/outlet stores, transportation, attended donation centers (ADCs), warehouses, Job Training and Education Centers (JTE) and other buildings or property owned or operated by Seattle Goodwill. The number of assigned facilities and AP staff will vary by assignment.

This position will supervise 3-4 direct reports and will be responsible for locations in North King County/Snohomish County/Skagit County/Whatcom County.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice.


  • Develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with other stakeholders both inside and outside the organization.
  • Effectively detect and deter external individuals who are attempting to misappropriate organizational assets.
  • AP focus will be on prevention, mitigation, recovery, reduction of shrinkage, and minimizing unnecessary losses to revenue.
  • Promptly and thoroughly investigate all cases of suspected internal theft, fraud, and misconduct within area of assignment.
  • Communicate areas of probable/possible internal loss activity to the Senior Director of Asset Protection. Obtain authorization from the Senior Director of Asset Protection prior to initiating any internal investigation or the installation of any covert CCTV equipment.
  • Properly document and maintain files of all activity not later than 24 hours following an incident.
  • Appropriately maintain evidence in cases.
  • Pursue restitution for any cases as appropriate.
  • Forward all written requests for civil compromise to the Senior Director of Asset Protection along with recommendation for approval/disapproval and relay any extenuating circumstances.
  • Immediately forward all attorney communication to the Senior Director of Asset Protection.
  • Immediately report any non-productive contacts to the Senior Director of Asset Protection.
  • Perform all job functions in a safe, ethical, and legal manner.
  • Protect the organization from foreseeable litigation at all times.
  • Provide customers and employees and other stakeholders with the highest level of customer service possible.
  • Effectively employ all available technological tools including but not limited to: CCTV, POS, Time and Attendance, Alarm Systems, and Databases.
  • Actively participate in physical inventories and monitoring inventory processes in area of assignment.
  • Ensure that all CCTV equipment is clean, functional and operating properly.
  • Assist in the installation/movement or repair of CCTV equipment when requested to do so.
  • Effectively schedule any budgeted contract security hours in area of assignment to achieve the most effective results. Review all schedules prepared by the contract company in advance of implementation.
  • Promptly review all security company invoices for proper billing in area of assignment.
  • Conduct regularly scheduled, random, and pinpoint surveillances at assigned facilities and ADCs. Surveillances will include open and closed hours.
  • Conduct and document regular (scheduled and unscheduled) operational compliance audits in each facility within assigned area of responsibility; including but not limited to: cash handling, cash office procedures, locker checks, bag checks, seal control, alarm procedures, key control, opening and closing procedures, discrepancy reporting, employee purchasing, mishandling, safety compliance, and identification badge compliance.
  • Conduct regular audits of facility key control and ensure that all keys are properly accounted for.
  • Verify that alarm call lists and access lists are current and that alarm codes are not proliferated.
  • Ensure that all after hours alarm calls are properly responded to.
  • Verify that safe combinations are changed promptly when warranted by staff change or compromise.
  • Conduct and document quarterly training meetings at facilities within area of assignment on an Asset Protection/loss prevention/safety/security related subject. Maintain meeting notes to include names and signatures of all attendees.
  • Attend asset protection, security and safety related training as directed.
  • Ensure an adequate number of CPR/First Aid certified personnel at each location within assigned area.
  • Respond to and render immediate first-aid to customers/employees/volunteers/visitors and clients as necessary.
  • Assist the Safety team upon request and maintain open lines of communication regarding all safety issues.
  • Regularly participate in evacuation drills and safety meetings.
  • Uphold safe work practices in support of a safety culture through awareness and observation; train and educate employees of safety requirements; report any potential hazards or accidents.
  • Assist with new store openings and store closures. Effectively protect the assets of Seattle Goodwill during the entire construction/closing phases.
  • Submit timely reports, documents, and schedules as directed by the Senior Director of Asset Protection.
  • Keep the Senior Director of Asset Protection informed of all significant events.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Goodwill's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; monitoring performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems. Partner with People Relations as needed and appropriate.


Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor's Degree Preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years supervisory experience.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • 3-5 years' experience in retail loss prevention/asset protection with substantial experience deterring shoplifters in a safe, legal, and ethical manner.

  • Self-starter who can perform with a minimum of supervision.

Certificates, Licenses, or Registrations:

  • Wicklander or Reid certification required. LPC certification preferred.
  • First Aid/CPR certification (Instructor trained within 6 months of hire).
  • Must have valid Washington Driver's license and proof of insurance along with good driving record.

Work at least one retail-closing shift and one early opening shift per assigned location per month. This position may require occasional overnight travel.
