Seattle Humane is looking for a creative, results- and relationship-driven, motivated fundraising professional to join our productive, collaborative Advancement team as our next Major Gifts Officer (MGO). The Development team raises approximately $10 million annually, with as-yet untapped opportunity to do even more on behalf of the animals in our care.

Please note our projected hiring timeframe:
- Application materials (cover letter and resume) submitted by March 15 will receive priority consideration, and the first round of virtual interviews begin shortly thereafter.
- Finalists will be required to submit a writing sample intended for a donor audience and invited to a second interview with Seattle Humane leadership.
- An offer will be extended by late-March. Ideally, the selected candidate will start by or before April 20 and will attend our gala on May 7, 2022.
COMPENSATION PACKAGE
Full-time position. Salary range $92,000-$100,000, consummate with experience and qualifications.

POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Senior Major Gifts and Planned Giving Officer, the MGO is responsible for actively managing a portfolio of donors and prospects by developing personalized cultivation strategies that lead to major gift solicitations of $10,000 .
CORE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (~85%)
This key role:
- Manage a portfolio of approximately 100 donors and prospects, using qualification, cultivation, stewardship, and solicitation strategies with a focus on major gift-level solicitations in the next 12-24 months;
- Build and nurture long-term relationships with donors, board members, and other supporters and stakeholders by keeping them informed, interested, and engaged with Seattle Humane;
- Implement best-practices and new ideas to cultivate and steward donors with thoughtfulness and creativity through extensive one-on-one donor contact, tailored communications, and engagement opportunities;
- Prepare, edit, and update written case for support, correspondence, proposals, and other donor-facing materials;
- Collaborate with advancement team members to implement large projects and events;
- Oversee messaging of renewal, special mailings, and acknowledgement correspondence to donors giving $2,500 annually
- Work to proactively add prospects to the major gifts pipeline through research and donor prospect tools; and
- Record activities in CRM (Raisers Edge) and meets or exceeds established annual metrics.
ASSUMES OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO (~15%):
- Represent the organization at events and speaking opportunities as needed (donor functions, receptions, webinars, community events, etc.);
- Attend local and regional meetings and participate in targeted activities that can be sources of fundraising opportunities and donor prospects for Seattle Humane;
- Develop and track revenue goals and expense budgets;
- Perform data-driven analyses of programs performance and make recommendations
QUALIFICATIONS
- Required: Bachelor's degree and five years professional fundraising experience with major gift responsibilities
- Deep commitment to the Seattle Humane mission
- Proven track record of providing quality service.
- Intrinsically motivated, self-directed, and proactive
- Demonstrated leadership skills in a team-oriented setting
- Experience managing, motivating, and training volunteers, including board members, to carry out fundraising projects
- Working knowledge of annual giving, direct mail and digital fundraising campaigns, and planned giving, with appetite for learning more
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Demonstrated organization and prioritization skills for multiple long- and short-term projects
- Personal knowledge and professional relationships with local, regional, and/or national philanthropic decision-makers
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite
- Proficiency in CRM, specifically Raisers Edge/NXT
- Reliable access to transportation
- Flexibility to travel regionally as necessary (< 10%), including some evenings and weekends
WORKING CONDITIONS
Open office concept environment. Hybrid in-office and work from home flexibility. May have limited animal handling which presents the potential of animal bites, exposure to zoonotic diseases (diseases that can be transmitted from vertebrate animals to people), animal dander and noise.
Equipment Use: Continuous use of desktop computer, printer, copy machine, and multi-line telephone.
Work Hours: First shift, with occasional evening and/or weekend hours required.
LOCATION
Must be based in the greater Seattle area. Reimbursement for relocation expenses not available.
