Title: Research Assistant III
Job Class: Hourly/Non-exempt - $30-32 per hour
PI\Reports to: David Morgenroth, MD and Glenn Klute, PhD

At the Seattle Institute for Biomedical and Clinical Research (SIBCR), scientists seek new ways to improve the health and well-being of Veterans through research and education conducted at the VA Puget Sound Health Care System and Mann-Grandstaff VA Medical Center.

Summary:

This position is for a full-time Research Assistant III for ongoing limb loss and mobility and prosthetics/orthotics research, working with a multi-disciplinary (e.g., rehabilitation medicine, engineering, prosthetics, biomechanics) team at the VA Center for Limb Loss and Mobility (CLiMB) in Seattle under the supervision and mentorship of the Principal Investigators, David Morgenroth, MD and Glenn Klute, PhD.

Responsibilities (in collaboration with research team):

Research Assistant will work with the research team under the guidance of the Principle Investigators by conducting participant recruitment and scheduling, data collection, processing, and management, and technical assistance for research operations.

Responsibilities and opportunities will include the following:

  • Interact with research participants, including but not limited to: screen potential study participants (phone or in-person), schedule them for enrollment visits, consenting, and other communications, and data collection.
  • Collect, process, and assist in the compilation and verification of research data(following the study protocol and detailed instructions).
  • Assist with routine data verification and quality control, ensuring data integrity and consistency with prescribed study protocols.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable IRB, human subjects, and data security guidelines and regulations.
  • Draft or assist with preparation of regulatory documents and correspondence (e.g., R&D, IRBs) as well as funding agency required reporting.
  • Assist in research operations such as contributing to progress reporting, attending, scheduling, and participating in study meetings, study equipment inventory, and order/purchasing of study supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Participate in study dissemination efforts (e.g., conference abstracts, peer reviewed manuscripts for journal submissions).
  • Maintain current educational and training requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor degree in biomechanics, kinesiology, engineering, prosthetics/orthotics, or related field.
  • Preferred minimum of one year of related work or research experience in a related position (e.g., biomechanics, engineering, and/or prosthetics/orthotics).
  • Demonstrated experience using gait laboratory instruments and equipment. (e.g Vicon, C-Motion Visual 3D, Delsys)
  • Knowledge of scientific and statistical software (e.g., Matlab, Python, R, or SPSS) strongly preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to troubleshoot technical procedures; ability to work independently.
