Position Description

This position will assist the head coach in all facets of program, which includes planning, coaching, recruiting, administering, and promoting the women's basketball team within NCAA and institutional standards. The assistant coach is expected to support the holistic development of student athletes and help to build and maintain a positive championship culture.

Coaching:

  • Be an uplifting advocate for student-athletes greater good and success.
  • Skill Development (Emphasis on Wing/Perimeter players)
  • Teach out-of-season, individual skill sessions, staying within the NCAA regulations for individual player workouts.
  • Video breakdown – evaluate game-by-game offense, defense, and player personnel. Watch and critique video with players as a team and individually.
  • Game planning
  • Prepare scouting report for assigned opponents and present the report to the coaching staff and team when requested.
  • Watch video of opponents requested by the head coach. Provide detailed, written reports, and include information on defensive and individual tendencies.
  • Assist in leading variety of skill/team breakdowns during the season.
  • Assists in teaching student athletes conflict resolution, time management and other life skills.


Recruiting:

  • Ability to identify talented student athletes that fit the mission of the University and the program.
  • Assist the coaching staff in evaluating prospective student athletes, travel required.
  • Organize and participate in unofficial and official visits.
  • Weekly communication with prospects. Via phone, email and social media
  • Request transcripts from recruits and follow up with appropriate calls to registrar and high school counselors.
  • Track and maintain all evaluations and communications with our recruits.

Administration:


  • Assist in ID camps during the year.
  • Sports Performance (Updates on all student-athletes sports performance needs and progress.)
  • Scheduling coordinator work with head coach on completing the best schedule to set us up for success.
  • Academic Liaison (Updates on all student-athletes progress.)


Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree and five years of intercollegiate coaching and recruiting experience coaching/or playing at the collegiate level, preferably at NCAA Division I or II or professional basketball, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
  • The ability and willingness to exercise discretion and have sound professional judgement is required.

  • Excellent office and administrative skills, task orientation, timeline adherence and the ability to work and collaborate in a group setting.
  • Required to complete Coaches Recruiting Certification, annually.
  • Additionally, adult CPR/First Aid/AED certification is required and must be maintained for the entire duration of employment.

Compensation at a Glance:

Salary Range: $65,000 - $75,000

Seattle University has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, and not based on a candidate’s gender or any other protected status.

Hybrid Eligible*
This position may be eligible for a hybrid schedule after successful completion of an introductory work period of 3-6 months. This may mean that a hybrid eligible role will begin on-campus initially and then will transition to hybrid format following onboarding and training. Flexible work plans are subject to periodic review and may be changed or terminated at any time for any reason at the university’s discretion.
