General Description
Performs complex (journey-level) accounting duties in the general ledger/security section of Financial Management, to include preparing financial statements, records, documents, reports, and reconciliations. Work involves the day-to-day oversight of general ledger activities to include interactions with accounts payable and accounts receivables sections in a timely and efficient manner;
- May also involve maintaining and balancing accounts and financial records.
- Must possess strong communication skills and abilities to handle multiple priorities, including time management and prioritization skills, and work efficiently.
- Must be able to work under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Examples of work performed
- Prepare reports, schedules, and exhibits related to the Annual Financial Report.
- Prepare monthly reconciliation of Expenditures/Revenue between CAPPS and USAS
- Audits accounting and financial documents for accuracy and compliance with policies and procedures and with state and federal statutes.
- Classifies, codes, post, and balances financial and accounting documents and records.
- Researches all reconciliation discrepancies and reports findings.
- Prepares and enters accounting transactions into journals and ledgers.
- Reconciles accounts and bank statements or appropriation balances
- Assist with Asset Management inventory and reconciliation.
- Assists with 1099 reporting
- Assist with quarterly review of Binding Encumbrances and Payables
- Attends CAPPS User Groups, contributing to development of business processes
- May review travel reimbursements by verifying travel expense reports, advance payment request
- May review accounts payable invoices
- May assist others in the section during peak periods.
- Perform other accounting duties and related work as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in accounting.
- Three (3) years of experience in general ledger accounting and financial operations.
- Able to work in the office and telework on certain days.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in an accounting environment in a state of Texas agency
- Experience using the Comptroller of Public Accounts (CPA) Uniform Statewide Accounting System (USAS).
- Experience using the CPA’s Centralized Accounting and Payroll/Personnel System (CAPPS).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and procedures
- Knowledge of governmental accounting, budget control methods, policies and procedures; and of law and regulations pertaining to financial operations.
- Knowledge of Texas state agency operations, policies, and procedures preferred
- Knowledge of automated financial systems
- Skill in the application of accounting theory and techniques
- Skill in the use of Microsoft excel and word software
- Ability to evaluate, interpret, develop, and prepare pertinent accounting data and reports in a clear and concise manner
Salary Range:
$ 6,250.00/month
