Summary

The Director of Environmental, Health, and Safety will serve as the global leader for the EHS Program. This role will drive assessment, resource analysis, and structure for an international team. As the leader for this global program, this role will drive the prevention of incidents and illnesses through risk-activity management processes, emergency response planning, and safety protocols in datacenter security operations. The Director of EHS will work to ensure that Securitas is providing its team members with a safe and healthy working environment that is achieved by identifying risks and unsafe practices, implementing controls to mitigate risk, monitoring performance, and compliance with both Securitas and client standards as well as applicable regulations. 

 

The Director of EHS manages a team of safety professionals that deliver global EHS services, operate within a global framework, and oversee project management of multiple efforts simultaneously. This role is highly collaborative in nature, offering support to multiple work groups and will likewise serve as the primary touchpoint with client EHS leadership.

Essential Functions
  1. Provides subject matter expertise on the design and implementation of all policies and procedures regarding safety, health and environmental measures and precautions for the assigned account. 
  2. Partners with leadership to develop environment, health, and safety KPI's to drive performance improvement. 
  3. Defines effective implementation and utilization of risk assessment, risk prediction, risk prevention processes to identify and mitigate hazards; inspects/tours facilities; monitors accidents/near hits, and prepares required reports of organizational safety performance. 
  4. Supports leadership and stakeholders globally in maintaining compliance with internal and external EHS policies/requirements, processes and procedures; manages change and growth. 
  5. Maintain knowledge of safety and health rules and regulations including international, federal, state, and local. Provides subject matter expertise on the content and implementation of training programs to increase proficiency in safe practices and to promote a safety conscious work environment.  
  6. Maintain and present the company’s safety metrics on a monthly, quarterly, and fiscal yearly basis. 
  7. Requires assessment of resources needed to staff and execute a global EHS Program that will in turn be hands-on with on-site security team members.
  8. Actively contributes to the program by guiding and mentoring team members participation (employee development) in activities in support of the various sites and operations with the objective of driving greater regional autonomy in the day-to-day execution of EHS compliance and business enablement activities. 
  9. Drives the evolution of a “safety mindset” through fostering a culture of safety, hygiene, health, and environment through definition of programs, systems and processes, policies and procedures that are compliant with applicable law and guidelines, and reflective of industry best practices – provides professional direction and/or guidance on health, hygiene, and safety issues; consults on design and use of equipment, facilities, fire prevention, safety programs. 
  10. Leads a regionalized team that has the responsibility to educate, train, and provide support to operations in the development and execution of consistent safety and environmental management programs. Responsible for guidance and oversight of team members responsible for conducting incident investigations, root cause analysis and communication of lessons learned. 

                

  1. Drive effective collaboration with program managers, regional staff, corporate counsel, and stakeholders to monitor enforcement of standards and regulations.
  2. Develop an effective communications plan which shares results for core measures of effectiveness as well as facilitating awareness of assurance results to include hidden risks or nonconformity issues. 
  3. Oversight and responsibility for performance of a team of Environmental, Safety and Health professionals, to include assisting with the creation of job descriptions, hiring, performance reviews, and other leadership responsibilities in accordance with human resource policies. 
  4. Oversee the creation and management of the master statement of work for safety related activities and contracts. Develop and support framework for employee led safety committees across the team. 
  5. Manage client relationships and expectations through regular, timely communication and interaction to include measuring and communicating client KPIs / OKRs and SLAs as outlined in the Master Statement of Work. 
  6. Creation of a business enablement mindset (vice simply compliance focus) driven by a responsiveness to formal and informal employee safety concerns which could require conducting, coordinating and/or overseeing workplace assessments and follows up, as necessary. 
  7. Oversight and responsibility for conducting annual reviews and audit related documents in partnership with operations to identify opportunities for improvement. 
  8. At the direction of the Senior Securitas Global Clients (Datacenters) leadership, perform other duties as assigned to ensure the overall success of the Datacenter Physical Security program.

Minimum Hiring Standards

Additional qualifications may be specified and receive preference, depending upon the nature of the position.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have a reliable means of communication, such as cell phone.
  • Must have a reliable means of transportation (public or private).
  • Must hold or be able to obtain a valid driver’s license or equivalent.
  • Must have the legal right to work in the country where the position is located.
  • Must have the ability to speak, read, and write English proficiently.
  • Must have a high school diploma, secondary education equivalent, or GED.
  • Must be willing to participate in the Company’s pre-employment screening process, including drug screen and background investigation.
    • OR Master's Degree in Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or related field AND 8 years Environmental Health and Safety Worldwide Regulations experience
    • OR equivalent experience.

 

 

Education/Experience
  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in EH&S leadership, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or related field AND 10 years of Environmental Health and Safety worldwide regulations experience
  • Internationally recognized safety and health certifications.
  • 5 years’ experience managing people.
  • Experience in developing & implementing EH&S corporate programs (preferably global programs) to include localized (site) level EH&S plans aligned to the larger / broader corporate level guidance. 
  • Proven senior level leadership, coaching, business acumen and technical/functional EH&S expertise coupled with clear and concise communication skills. 
  • Demonstrated success in influencing change (building culture) at multiple levels, as well as developing and implementing dynamic and fluid programs to sustain positive culture. 
  • Ability to influence internal & external stakeholders (to include operational leaders) on EH&S matters while supporting business objectives through systematic collaboration and engagement with the client. 
  • Innovative mindset, offering creative solutions to problems with the ability to anticipate business issues and align EH&S operational priorities. 
  • Results oriented with a focus on continuous improvement to include experience in change management (Lean Kaizen, etc.). 
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to influence without authority. 
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Teams, Word, OneNote, PowerPoint, Visio, Excel, as well as SharePoint. 
  • Experience working in a datacenter environment a plus.
Special Requirements
  • Have a current passport or be able to obtain one. 
  • Able to travel (international or domestic, as required) approximately 30% of the time or more, occasionally with limited notice.
  • Legally authorized to enter non-USA based locations.
  • Able to work evening or weekend hours when required, such as during an emergency or high-priority event.
