Security Benefit (SB) is seeking a Manager Investment Operations to join the Investments team. SB fosters strong partnerships to provide insightful and customized retirement solutions for employers and individual investors nationwide. Through a broad advisor network and its nationally recognized money managers, SB provides mutual funds, annuities and retirement plans and programs. SB associates are working in a hybrid environment with both remote and on-site work.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Manager Investment Operations will support the lifecycle of the investment for investment types on the Security Benefit book of business and will be responsible for the following duties:
Oversee, develop and implement standardized procedures for supporting the lifecycle of an investment in addition to creating and validating methods needed to process and access trade specific information.
Responsible for management, oversight and completing trade confirming and processing, corporate actions, onboarding, valuation, adhoc reporting, and other functions of the lifecycle of a trade as needed while staying current with market and best practices in the industry to facilitate operational activities. Manage coverage to support initiatives, allocation of resources, workflows and escalation.
Direct, anticipate and provide solutions to the most complex business and operations problems. Strategize with technology to devise and implement solutions to drive better operational efficiencies. Analyze, review and/or prepare regulatory, compliance, management, analytical and adhoc report requests from internal/external clients.
Collaborates with clients, custodians, brokers, industry contacts and internal service partners such as Front Office, Investment Accounting, IT, Treasury and outsource providers to ensure efficient and timely transmission of complete data.
Maintain an astute awareness of industry standards, best practices as to middle/back office operations and systems used. Establish, analyze, review and maintain sound controls to support client and regulatory needs.
Oversees settlement with custodians and brokers for securities including but not limited to fixed income, equity, and private placements to ensure accuracy of processed portfolio trades and or holdings which will include complex and non-traditional settlements.
Establish accurate, efficient and effective financial reporting and control functions.
Lead and collaborate as a liaison between cross functional and external parties.
Oversees periodic reports and other financial documents
Direct leadership of individuals and/or one or more functions.
Develop and lead a team of professionals by hiring and retaining qualified professional staff, establishing and managing performance expectations, mentoring and coaching, driving results, establishing a plan that aligns with the strategic direction and communicating effectively to internal and external stakeholders.
Performs and directs research and/or quantitative analysis that will allow market requirements to be shared with business groups.
Eligible candidates will be evaluated on the following criteria:
A bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in Finance, Economics, Business Administration or related degree
7 years of experience in an Investment Operations or Financial Services Role managing and direct leadership of a single or multiple functions/verticals
Experience in analyzing financial documentation, developing procedures and communicating detail in both verbal and written form
Strong individual contributor and team player with high standards for productivity and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and juggle multiple competing tasks and short deadlines
Strong computer skills, including advanced proficiency with MS Office
Outside-the-box thinker, passionate about problem solving and possesses and entrepreneurial spirit with strong organizational skills that demonstrate the ability to delivery timely results.
Experience with industry tools, more specifically with investment and Accounting systems and platforms (Pam for Investments, Clearwater, Everest, Charles River Trading System, Omego Products, ClearPar, Thinkfolio, MarkitEdm, Calypso, Wall Street Office, Portia, Camera, Bloomberg AIM, Bond Edge, Intex) strongly preferred
Experience with both insourced and outsourced operating models and vendor management with understanding of investment markets and standard industry practices
