Job Summary
Coordinates digital, social, and media communications efforts. Assists with branding implementation, digital signage, and internal communications to position the Zoo as a leader in conservation and a top area attraction.
Primary Job Functions
Content Creation
- Work within Marketing & Communications team to implement mission-based communication strategy through digital content.
- Coordinate and execute the production of the Sedgwick County ZooCast.
- Write educational blog articles that support SCZ’s mission and promote its SEO strategy.
- Execute copywriting assignments for other marketing tools such as the member newsletter, customer emails, and website.
- Manage ongoing website content updates and requests.
- Provide support for photography and videography projects, as assigned.
Internal Communication
- Create and distribute employee newsletter.
- Coordinate with curators and department supervisors to ensure accuracy of digital content.
- Maintain employee intranet content.
Marketing & Communications Support
- Provide engaging coverage of special events and education programming.
- Respond to email inquiries with a high level of customer service in a timely manner.
- Support the Marketing & Communications Director with media relations activities.
- Assist with on-site digital signage management.
- Assist with branding implementation.
- Secondary Job Functions
- Work within the Development Department to support all events and fundraising efforts.
- Represent the Zoo and/or Sedgwick County at various offsite events such as regional, national, and international conferences, meetings, community events, outreach programs, etc.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Communication / Integrated Marketing / Journalism / or related field.
- Knowledge of social media platforms.
- Valid US driver’s license without restrictions.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite.
- Proven knowledge of AP Style.
Years of Experience
- 1-3 years of experience in related field.
Working Environment/Conditions
The employee is subject to activities that occur in both inside and outside environments conditions. The employee is subject to potential hazards of working with and near dangerous animals. The employee may be exposed to zoonotic diseases. Employee must be able to work a schedule that involves working weekends, holidays, and after regular work shifts.
Physical requirements
May be required to lift objects up to 50 pounds. Ability to sit, stand, or walk for extended periods within indoor and outdoor environments. The employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading.
