Job Description
The Team
The Athena team is a cross-functional Product, Engineering, UX, and Delivery team which is driven by continuous improvement through user behaviour and internally by learning, adapting, and evolving our team capabilities and approaches.
The Athena team is specifically responsible for our Hirer’s product offerings and the purchase flow including core platform services of Products, Pricing, , Discounts and Orders in addition to key customer-facing experiences around purchase and checkout.
The team is currently structured into two Sub teams; Hirer Products and eCommerce. This opportunity is to be 1 of a future 2 Principal Engineers in the Hirer Products team, and be part of the senior group of technical leaders across both teams, which currently includes a Senior Principal Engineer, x2 Principal Engineers and a Senior Engineer.
The team successfully led the delivery of Seek’s largest transformation program of the past 10 years in 2021 and is now leading the rearchitecting of Seek’s Hirer platform to enable extensive personalisation to the Hirer (external customer) and configuration capability for Seek.
This role will play a significant leadership role in contributing to this multiyear goal.
The Role and Opportunity
The Principal Engineer joining the Athena team will be a significant contributor in building a new product and platform architecture, providing technical leadership, and mentoring the team to success in rolling out these technology and customer experiences.
Seek’s Principal Engineers are present in all teams and have a primary purpose to provide technical leadership, represent and influence in their team’s domain (or sub domain) and contribute to the technical communities at Seek.
You will be responsible for leading and line management of an evolving group of Engineers, Senior Engineers or Business Analysts/Iteration Managers that form part of the Athena team, depending on the focus work and key initiatives at the time.
You will collaborate closely with the Engineering Manager, Snr Product Managers and Principal Engineers to conceptualise, experiment and implement our team goals and plans.
What is Marketplace Unification and what does that mean to you?
One of our key objectives over the next three years at Seek is to adapt our ANZ platform to serve traffic from our Asian markets.
Seek has grown through acquisitions in the Asian markets including JobsDB (Hong Kong, Singapore & Thailand) and JobStreet (Malaysia, Indonesia & Philippines) which operate on their own platforms. The purpose of Unification is to align to one platform across APAC.
Unification leverages a modern tech stack using AWS, React, Node.js and GraphQL.
The program is unique, ambitious, technically complex, and intellectually stimulating for all people involved. The platform will support in excess of 250 million people across APAC so your ability to impact will be profound.

Once completed Marketplace Unification will enable us to deploy our APAC talent more effectively and deliver better outcomes for customers.
Qualifications
What are we looking for?
A front end focused technical leader
Experienced in front end methods, patterns and technologies including React
Passionate about user experimentation, and keen collaborator and partner to Product and UX partners
Proven experience as a technical leader with direct people management experience
An innovator someone who is always looking to improve the status quo
You can effectively influence a team and stakeholders both directly and indirectly
Extensive experience in engineering within a complex environment
Have been accountable for technical solutions within a customer environment
