POSITION SUMMARY
The Surgical Technician assists in the organization and daily function of the operating room in accordance with established Federal, State and accreditation standards and center policies and procedures. Assists the nurses and physicians in delivering the highest standard of patient care available.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include the following:
•Under the supervision of the registered nurse, assists with patient care activities including but not limited to the following:
-patient positioning, surgical prep, and application of post-surgical dressings.
•Promotes the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
•Assures the maintenance of a safe, clean, sterile environment.
•Utilizes standard precautions at all times.
•Assists in the cleaning of surgical suites including proper disposal of linens, trash, and sharps
•Performs sterile processing duties including proper cleaning, inspection, wrapping, and autoclaving of instruments.
•Assists in the monitoring and stocking of proper supply inventory and room stock as indicated.
•Assists in the maintaining of equipment.
•Demonstrates ability to assess the needs of patients and the department and appropriately communicates these to the RN or appropriate person.
•Actively participates in staff meetings and in-services and follows through with the implementation of new procedures and policies.
•Communicates effectively with others in an appropriate and timely manner while exhibiting a professional behavior and a positive attitude at all times.
•Uses critical thinking skills to anticipate the needs of the surgical team and performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
•Prepares assigned operating room including supplies, instrumentation, and equipment according to the doctor preference card.
•Participates in quality review and performance improvement projects
•Participates in the performance appraisal process
•Uses problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships with team members
•Maintains required competencies
•Acts as a patient advocate and maintains privacy and confidentiality of all appropriate information.
•Completes all required compliance training.

• Ability to scrub all types of cases preferred.
• Ensures that an adequate amount of in-house supplies and medical gases are available in accordance with weekly caseload.
• Willingness to assume additional assignments on an as needed basis.
• Good computer skills including use of standard office programs
• Ability to operate standard office equipment
• Ability to speak, read, and write in English
• Ability to concentrate, think, and learn
• Ability to hear, see, sit, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, lift, push and pull
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Completion of Surgical Tech program; Certification as a surgical technician or proof of equivalent training; Two (2) years’ Operating room experience preferred. BLS required. All employees must be able to provide proof of identity and right to work in the United States.
