What are the responsibilities and job description for the Organizer position at SEIU Local1021?
SEIU Local 1021 was founded in 2007 when 10 local unions came together in northern California to form one larger, more powerful union. Together our members are building a true 21st century union fighting to empower and improve the lives of our members. We are 60,000 strong—organizing and representing public service workers in cities, counties, courts, schools, private non-profits, special districts, public health care, and nursing. LOCATION: Northern California
EXPERIENCE: One (1) year experience in union organizing. External organizing and related experience will be given consideration, as will steward and rank-and-file experience.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Will work with the Organizing staff to implement the organizing plan of the Local Union. Identify and recruit worker leaders who want to organize to join the union; direct contact with unorganized workers; development of leadership and structure of organizing campaigns, as well as conduct organizing drives and representation elections. Mobilize union members to support new organizing. This is not a 9 to 5 job, and includes long and varied hours, with early morning, evening and weekend work, as necessary. May require travel and periods of overnights.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Responsible for probing of potential organizing targets. You will conduct worksite meetings and house visits with workers; facilitate worksite meetings with workers; develop weekly and monthly plans based on overall campaign goals; identify worker issues; assess workers; mobilize workers for public actions, track worker data; identify and recruit worker leaders.

REQUIREMENTS: Must possess a valid California driver’s license; must pass a DMV check and have a good driving record; must have auto insurance that covers business driving (minimum of $100,000 per person/$300,000 per incident bodily injury liability/$50,000 property coverage); and must possess an automobile for business use.
SALARY AND BENEFITS: The current salary range is $68,983 – $113,303 based on qualifications and experience. There is a competitive and comprehensive benefits package.
