Custodian

Job Description

Under general supervision keeps buildings, and plant facilities clean and orderly.  Sweeps, mops, polishes floors and removes trash and litter. .Makes minor maintenance repairs.  

Job Responsibilities

• Keeps the building and property in clean and orderly condition.
• Performs routine maintenance activities.
• Performs heavy cleaning duties.
• Sweeps, mops and scrubs floors.
• Gathers and empties trash.
• Follows procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power machinery to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
• Stocks supplies in restrooms as needed.
• Makes minor maintenance repairs.

Accountabilities

• Notifies Supervisor regarding needed repairs
• Adheres to and stays abreast of company policies.
• Ensures own safety and the safety of others by following all safety regulations.
• Commits to the corporate goals, mission, and vision.
• Submits at least one Continuous Improvement per quarter.

Required Education and Skills

• Some industrial janitorial experience with cleaning machines is preferred.
• Must satisfy quality standards.
• Communicates ideas to improve the organization.
• Can clearly communicate orally and in writing.
• Manifests non-violent behavior.
• Uses clear independent thinking.
• Must have regular attendance.
• Must start work on time.
• Must work the scheduled shift.
• Must conform to current environmental standards.
• Must participate in annual training to update and document job related skills.

Physical Demands

• Stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead and bend to the floor.
• Lifting up to 35 pounds.
• Exert 50 to 100 pound of force occasionally.
• Exert 25 to 50 pounds of force occasionally.
• Exert up to 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Visual/Hearing

• Near acuity or accommodations as required for reading gauges.
• Ability to monitor machine sounds to identify and diagnose changes in order to take appropriate action.

Working Conditions

• High noise levels from operating machines.
• Physical hazards from moving equipment and machine parts.
• Breathing fumes, dust, and mist.
• Skin exposure to oils and cutting fluids.
• Exposure to heat during summer months.

• The associate is required to follow other instructions and perform other job duties as requested.
