Support for Early Learning and Families (SELF) collaborates with the Educational Service District (ESD) 112 in Vancouver, WA to provide staffing and talent management for Child Care Centers primarily in Southwest WA. General Description of Position:
Under the supervision of the Center Director, the ECEAP Aide assists in the safe and pleasant bus transportation of children enrolled in the program. They ensure safety measures are followed on and around the bus and behaviors are managed appropriately. They also assist with the implementation of the educational curriculum that meets the ECEAP Performance Standards and the daily operations of preschool classroom in the ECEAP programs.
Qualifications and Skills:
- High school diploma or GED
- 18 years of age or older (Department of Children, Youth and Families minimum licensing requirement).
- Ability to work within a team and work effectively with other people.
- Ability to follow directions and follow through efficiently on assigned tasks.
- Must present a professional and positive demeanor in behavior and dress.
- Demonstrate an understanding and appreciation for diverse ethnic and economic backgrounds of families served.
Essential Functions:
- Supervise children on the bus while being transported to and from program.
- Ensure safety standards and practices are followed to ensure safe behavior on the bus to and from the Center and the child’s home.
- Effectively manage behaviors that arise while on the bus.
- Establish and maintain positive communication using collaborative methods to problem solve and interact with families, children, and staff.
- Supervise, interact, and play with children during assigned times of responsibilities.
- Follow established plans to meet the needs of the individual children with concerns for interests, disabilities, special talents, cultural background and individual styles.
- Support and follow the guidance techniques posted in the classroom.
- Lift children onto play equipment, changing table, and/or to hold or place on lap.
- Help prepare and serve breakfast, lunch, and snacks following USDA guidelines (including meal counts and service procedures).
- Clean up after food preparation and after serving breakfast, lunch, and snacks.
- Maintain a safe, orderly, clean and healthy center environment, including administering first aid and handling emergencies.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Provide general housekeeping tasks such as sweeping and picking up toys and materials used in projects.
- Participate regularly in staff meetings, in-service programs, and workshops. This may require the ability to work occasional nights and weekends.
- Support and follow the direction of the ECEAP lead and assistant teacher.
- Float through other center classrooms to provide lunches, breaks and support for other teaching staff. Includes supporting other centers in SW Washington.
- Other duties as assigned.
Physical/Strength Requirements:
- Regular attendance during scheduled work hours.
- Requires the ability to move or traverse about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, center activities, etc.
- Moderate or frequent exposure to loud noises, outside weather elements, and temperature changes.
- Lifting requirements include the ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects including the human body.
- Job involves sitting, standing, walking, lifting, carrying, reaching, grasping, bending, stooping, crouching, pushing, and/or pulling. Position involves physical mobility with or without reasonable accommodation to perform essential functions of the job.
Employment Requirements:
- Successful completion of a portable background check (PBC) and clearance through the Department of Children Youth and Families prior to starting employment, paid by SELF.
- Valid certification in Child/Adult CPR, first-aid, HIV/Blood Borne Pathogens training and current food handler’s card, paid by employee.
- Valid negative TB test completed within the previous twelve months along with an initial health exam completed by medical provider showing you are free from communicable diseases.
- Provide documentation showing immunity to the MMR.
- Provide proof of COVID-19 Vaccination or have an approved medical/religious exception on file.
- Participation in the State Training and Registry System (STARS) program required; Child Care Basics training required prior to employment.
