Seneca's James Baldwin Academy is a non-public school serving 50 students in grades 5-12 to personalize our treatment approach for each student and promote the social, emotional, behavioral and intellectual development of each student. The Assistant Principal is responsible for assisting the Program Director in the development, implementation, and day to day operation of the program, which includes the therapeutic milieu, educational services, and therapy with children and their families. The Assistant Principal is responsible for overseeing the school program. This includes the academic program, extended session program, and general maintenance of the school facilities.

Responsibilities
- Ensure that the program is run in a safe, therapeutic and efficient manner
- Facilitate effective integration of educational, clinical, and milieu program components
- Identify areas for improvement in the program and take initiative to make needed changes
- Plan school events i.e., conference days, assemblies, end of the year programs, field trips, etc.
- Provide leadership for staff in creating a positive work environment
- Develop cooperative, effective and functional teams
- Perform the following personnel functions: interviewing, hiring, supervision, evaluation, disciplinary action, and professional development
- Coordinate and participate in meetings and trainings for program personnel
- Ensure adequate supervision of staff is provided in a supportive, constructive manner
- Participate in administrative meetings, including facilitation of IEP’s as needed
- Supervise teachers and teacher associates, conduct classroom observations and provide instructional coaching to teachers.
- Evaluate the curriculum needs of the teachers, design a plan and budget for continuously updating the curriculum available to staff.
- Ensure that curriculum is updated to meet guidelines as set forth by local school districts.
- Ensure that staff is following curriculum guidelines as outlined in state frameworks.
- Provide guidance to classroom teams in understanding and meeting the education and therapeutic needs of each student.
- Maintain class size and structure.
- Design yearly calendar.
- Write effective proposals, reports, and policies
- Ensure a highly engaging and collaborative approach to working with students and families
- Build and maintain positive relationships with partner agencies and school districts
- Ensure compliance with regulations and policies and ensure that all certification requirements and quality reviews are passed with the highest quality standards in place.
Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Education or related experience
- Administrative or Special Education Credential
- Experience working with high needs students and their families.
- Ability to integrate educational, clinical, and behavioral program elements.
- Strong awareness of how issues of power, privilege, culture, identity, and intersectionality affect the experience of students, families, staff, and the functioning of the school and the systems in which it operates.
- Demonstrated leadership and facilitation skills
- Ability to develop and maintain partnerships
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proven leadership ability in a school or milieu-based program
- Demonstrated ability to write professional reports
- Demonstrated ability to design and implement programs is desirable.
- Knowledge and experience with crisis intervention techniques.
- Valid California driver’s license, clean record, and insurability under Seneca’s automobile policy
- TB test clearance, fingerprinting clearance, and any other State/Federal licensing or certification requirements
Schedule
- School based schedule:
- Monday to Friday: 8 AM- 4:30 PM
- 5 weeks of paid time off, 11 paid holidays, and additional paid school break days

- Starting at $89,710.00-$103,710 per year, with actual salary dependent on creditable experience above the minimum qualifications for the role
