Director of Accounting is responsible for the general oversight of the accounting office, ensure internal control standards and objectives are met; assist the VP/Finance in preparing timely and accurate financial reports; assure compliance with Federal and State Grant regulations; coordinate preparation and completion of reconciliations, ensuring a high level of accuracy and integrity. Utilize leadership skills to foster positive staff engagement.
Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance or business administration required. Must have knowledge of the principles, procedures, and practices of general accounting. Must be proficient in advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Excel; Cost Accounting; attention to detail and accuracy; analytical skills; ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines. Experience with non-profit, general ledger, Federal/State grants, payroll, accounts payable and accounts receivable preferred.
Valid driver’s license and vehicle required. Must pass a Criminal Background Check and Employment Fitness Determination through WVCARES and a drug screen.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assure compliance with Federal and State Grant regulations.
- Oversee daily transactions and ensure accurate and timely processing of accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, bank reconciliations, etc.
- Maintain a broad knowledge of laws/regulations and Seneca’s policies/procedures, monitor operations and staff for compliance.
- Develop, implement and maintain financial policies, procedures, and controls to safeguard company assets.
- Conduct regular audits to identify areas for improvement and ensure adherence to accounting standards.
- Provide guidance and support to staff members in the accounting department (Payroll and AP); screen and recommend hire of staff; evaluate performance; provide orientation and training; ensure staff compliance.
- Stay updated on industry trends, changes in regulations, and best practices in financial reporting.
- Assist with preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual grant reconciliations, as well as all required grant reporting.
- Assist VP/CFO with financial audits.
- Prepare routine audits and reports, as needed.
- Ensure staff comply with Seneca Code of Conduct & Ethical Practices.
- Secure information and protect operations by adhering to privacy and security regulations and keeping client and corporate information confidential.
- Represent Seneca in a positive manner including maintaining a positive attitude and performing duties in a manner in accordance with Seneca’s Mission and Code of Conduct and Ethical Practices.
