Seneca Federal Health is looking to hire aMuseum Technicianto support our government client in Silver Spring, MD. This position provides critical support to the Defense Health Agency (DHA) at the National Museum of Health and Medicine (NMHM).
The Museum Technician manages the museum collections according to NMHM policies.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to
- Assists collections specialists and registrar staff in day-to-day collections management projects and special projects.
- Capable of carrying out inventory, cataloging, and organization of museum objects, specimens, and archives in accordance with best-practice museum standards of care.
- Assists in preservation and maintenance activities of a range of archival and object types such as glass, paper, artifacts, skeletal, and wet tissue collections.
- Assist collections specialists in fulfilling research requests for inventories, data, and images.
- Assists researchers in accessing materials, setting up equipment, and facilitates use of collections materials.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in museum studies, Library Science, Biology, Anthropology or History.
- Two years' relevant collections management experience.
- Expert oral and written communication skills.
- Responsibility for handling historically, scientifically, and monetarily valuable collections isrequired.
- Electronic publication and other software experience.
- Demonstrable ability to generate creditable finding aids and work in support of registrarial and general collections management.
- Occupational health clearance for use of respirator and work within a BSL-2 (biosafety level) environment
- Requires ability to work in confined collections storage areas, ability to climb ladders and use basic materials handling equipment such as dollies, pallet jacks, flatbed carts, hand drills, etc. Ability to safely lift supplies or museum objects.
Desired Qualifications
- Skill with collections management databases (Ke EMu preferred) and other database skills.
