POSITION TITLE: PART-TIME CONTROLLER

Senior Network Services, Inc. (SNS) is a nonprofit multipurpose community resource agency providing older adults and persons living with disabilities with information, guidance and assistance in coordinating existing resources to promote independence and the highest quality of life. Through our seven unique direct services programs, Senior Network Services serves over 12,000 clients each year. A longstanding part of the non-profit community, Senior Network Services has served Santa Cruz County seniors since 1974.

SNS is currently in a time of growth and is expanding its workforce to keep pace with our expanding services and administrative requirements. The Part-Time Controller is a new position at SNS that provides opportunity for system development and professional growth.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Part-Time Part-Time Controller is responsible for various aspects of the organization’s fiscal obligations, including participating in budgeting, fiscal compliance and reconciling accounts. The Part-Time Controller is also responsible for maintaining and managing all required business licenses and insurance for the agency. The Part-Time Controller works independently and with the Executive Director, Bookkeeper and Director of Operations on projects, as required.

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Evaluate current financial systems and collaboratively create and implement new operational systems as needed;
  • Oversee banking, accounts receivable and payable, payroll, and other fiscal administrative responsibilities;
  • Craft program-specific and organization-wide budgets;
  • Reconcile the organization’s accounts monthly, including review of statements prepared by the bookkeeper, bank statements, payroll records and invoice receipts;
  • Create general journal entries for submission to the bookkeeper, as needed;
  • In collaboration with Director of Operations and/or Director of Programs, participate in funder compliance matters: monitor accounts receivable and payable for fiscal compliance, create and submit budget reports and invoices for various grant and contracts;
  • Prepare budget reports for the Executive Director, Board of Directors, and the organization as a whole;
  • Monitor contract and grant spend-down and proper expense allocation according to approved contract/grant budgets;
  • Prepare for and assist with yearly fiscal audit;
  • Facilitate year-end accounting close-out;
  • Work with the bookkeeper to resolve accounting errors or questions;
  • Manage business insurance and licenses;
  • Perform general clerical duties - copying, filing, scanning - as needed;
  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • B.A. or A.A. in Accounting or similar field with a minimum of two years accounting experience, preferably with a non-profit organization;
  • Experience with accounts receivable and payable;
  • Proficiency in fund accounting and maintaining a general ledger required;
  • Experience monitoring grants/contracts for fiscal compliance highly desired;
  • Ability to understand and interpret financial statements and documents, including P&L Statements, Budgets, Balance Sheets, Income Statements;
  • Experience collaborating on program and agency budgets;
  • Knowledge of required business insurance and licenses;
  • Knowledge of social, economic and organizational aspects of community-based programs, community resources, and senior services highly desired.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Excellent computer and technology skills, including Excel and Google Suite;
  • Experience with Quickbooks and Salesforce desired;
  • Ability to work independently required;
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills required;
  • Fingerprinting and background check required;
  • Must provide a completed COVID-19 vaccination card, with or without accommodation.

HOURS/BENEFITS

  • Part-Time: approximately 15-20 hrs/week; Hourly; Non-exempt
  • $40.00-$42.00 per hour, dependent on experience
  • Flexible schedule and some remote work possible
  • Voluntary participation in employer-sponsored 403b retirement plan
  • Paid vacation, sick and holiday time off
