Summary: The Application Engineer works directly with the customer to understand their needs and requirements. They have the ability to lead the customer in the right direction and assist them in determining solutions with a current product or customizing of a product to suit their needs.
Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
· Lead the new product and technology introduction process
· Provide technical expertise on products and applications
· Provide technical feedback to customers
· Deliver on-site application support and training for customers as needed
· Coordinate between R&D, commercial and manufacturing teams for successful product launches
· Develop strong technical and commercial relationships with customers, internal partners, suppliers and any other 3rd party organizations
· Evaluate customer requests and determine technical feasibility. Determine application issues by conferring with customers regarding specifications and application options; evaluating; identifying and establishing specifications and performance standards; coordinating requirements with development engineering team
· Work with Sales Managers to determine commercial feasibility
· Support sales by studying customer requirements; providing information for requests for quotation (RFQ); making technical presentations when needed
· Present modifications and/or final products to customers
· Product management; monitor development, validation, trials, and production
· Help develop testing in-house and externally
· Development of new product ideas and market opportunities; benchmark industry trends
· Documentation of product application by preparing application notes regarding features, functions, operational requirements, and warnings; preparing and issuing updates
· Support product development by providing information regarding competitor applications and applications development
· Solving customer application needs; researching and developing engineering techniques and approaches; verifying application performance; transferring from test to manufacturing
· Build customer relationships by receiving, investigating, and resolving concerns; following-up with customers and QA team
· Update job knowledge by tracking and understanding emerging fiber optic engineering technologies and practices; participating in educational opportunities and professional organizations; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; and attending Trade Shows

Requirements
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree required. Science or Engineering major preferred; other technical degree and/or relevant work-related experience considered
· Minimum 3 years’ experience with background in plastics and/or fiber optic passive component parts, connectors, cable assemblies, or similar electro-mechanical component products required
· Project management experience required
· Production planning and forecasting experience required
· 1 to 3 years’ experience in direct B to B sales to OEM’s preferred
· R & D experience preferred
· Ability to travel 30% to 40% required
· Bilingual, English and Spanish
· Proficient with computer skills including all MS Office software programs required
· Must have basic understanding of 3-D CAD drawings, models, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD & T)
