Position Summary:
The Assistant Controller will be responsible for all routine accounting and financial control functions of the firm, to ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial statements while maintaining an effective internal control environment. The ideal candidate will need to integrate accounting skills and enterprise-wide knowledge to assist in the design and implementation of new processes and be a key contributor to implementing a firmwide ERP system. The Assistant Controller will assist in the development of the Finance team as well as scaling to meet strategic business needs, and will oversee GL, AR, and AP staff. The role requires integrity, confidentiality, leadership, and strong communication and management skills. The Assistant Controller will maintain consistent high performance within the department and actively seek opportunities to improve efficiency and service. In addition, candidates should aspire to the Controller role.
Responsibilities:
- Manage monthly close and financial statement preparation
- Manage accuracy of transactions and accounting systems
- Develop, implement, and maintain systems, policies, objectives, short-range and long-range planning to assist in accomplishment of established goals
- Oversee and develop GL, AR, and AP functions, including mentoring and managing staff
- Analyze and report on expenses, operations, and profitability
- Ensure accounting practices are in compliance with legal guidelines and established accounting principles
- Identify solutions to discrepancies in financial records
- Assist in the preparation of budgets, rolling forecasts and comparisons to actual
- Manage or perform varied administrative duties, special projects, and reports
- 5 Years of accounting and reporting experience
- 3 years experience in a professional service environment and people management is preferred
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Office
- Expert knowledge in accounting and financial principals, regulations, and GAAP best practice
- Experience with systems implementation and integration, preferably ERP design through implementation stages
- Highly skilled in data management, with the vision of executing down-stream reporting
- Successful management and development of team members
- Highly organized with keen attention to detail
- Proficient with data analysis, critical thinking, and problem-solving
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proactive, and analytical nature
- Strong ability to meet deadlines
- Strong desire to continuously learn, develop self and others
- Experience with Sage Intacct, a plus (but not required)
