Director of Substation Division – Sentry Electrical Group, Inc.
Sentry Electrical Group, Inc. is an electrical contractor that constructs medium and high voltage electrical projects on an Engineer, Procure and Construct basis.
We are seeking a Director with the industry and technical understanding of Substation project construction sequence and issues to grow and Manage Sentry Electrical Group’s Substation Construction and installation division.
The successful candidate will have 5-10 years of experience in the Substation industry with proven leadership, people management skills, strong time management and organizational skills. The position will require expert understanding of contractual terms, estimating, cost management, project scheduling and the supervision of project teams.
This position will provide overall technical and operational management for one or multiple projects throughout the U.S. and will be responsible for successful project implementation and completion. The Director leads and coordinates key functions such as financial feasibility analyses, engineering/design, project legal review, permitting activities and financial negotiations
Job Duties will include working closely with business development and estimating department to develop successful project bids and proposals and the on-going positive cost performance for active contracts and projects. The Director will work with internal and external parties to negotiate the final contractual scope and deliverables and complete engineering design reviews for compliance to contract and scope of work.
As the Company’s representative, the Director will manage the customer interface and communications, manage the RFI process to owner or general contractor, review and authorize transmittals to the Owner or general contractor. The Director will work with other departments and personnel to develop and manage project budgets, forecasts and ongoing, timely analysis and reporting of project cost- to -complete. Working with Project Managers and site leads, the Director will manage change orders as they arise, review and monitor quality control processes and deliver oral and written reports as requested or contractually required.
As required, the Director will qualify, negotiate, and secure contracts with subcontractors, oversee the procurement and/or equipment and materials (rented, leased, or purchased) for the project. The Director will participate in the identification and selection of the senior project teams, on-site leads and assist in the specification of labor classifications and personnel needs.
The Director will have responsibility for the oversight and direct communications with Owners, site operations, subcontractors, superintendents, project managers and safety managers. As a divisional lead, the Director will have oversight responsibility and will assure that site related activities are completed by site and project personnel, as required, and as scheduled, including:
- Management and the development of Plan of the Day (POD), three - week forecasts
- Daily reporting by Superintendent of work progress, safety concerns, delays, etc.
- Effectiveness of superintendent’s management of workers and subcontractors
- Delivery and management of safety training and reporting
- Preparation of monthly invoices to owner or general contractor
- Approval and processing of subcontractor invoices, material, and rental invoice
- Manage project closeout documentation including as-built drawings and testing
Experience and Qualifications:
- Minimum of 10 to 15 years Substation Construction Experience including a minimum of 5 years P&L responsibility.
- Engineering Degree or Construction Management Major preferred
- PMI/PMP certification a plus
- Knowledge of OSHA safety and construction regulations
- Assist with the development and reporting of the Divisional OSHA 300 log
- Experience and proficiency with MS Office including MS Excel and MS Word. Use of Microsoft Project and Drop-Box is a plus but not required
Other Considerations:
- Candidate will work remote from home office when not at a jobsite
- Director will attend (virtually or in-person), scheduled meetings with Senior Management
- Monthly visits to active projects will be on a scheduled basis.
- Knowledge of state and utility rules and incentives with respect to renewables
- Detailed oriented, analytical, organized, able to meet established deadlines, strong communication skills, and works well in pressure-type situations.
