Professional Accountant- Job Description
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting
- Prior experience in non-profit accounting and federal award management
Following all local, state and federal laws as well as accounting policies and procedures, the organization's Accountant will:
- Enter accounting and financial data in the organization's accounting system
- Maintain an orderly accounting filing system including a proper chart of accounts as well as vendor, payroll, and reimbursement files
- Review expense claims, process bills for payment and write checks
- Invoice grantors monthly, quarterly, or as required by current grants
- Tag and monitor organization's fixed assets
- Support the CEO and the Board of Directors in monitoring the financial results of activities and projects
- Conduct a monthly reconciliation of every bank account
- Support the CEO in complying with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements
- Compile and analyze financial reports in an accurate and timely manner, including those to be presented at Board of Directors meetings (balance sheet, income statement, cash flow statement, and statement of changes in net assets) and send to the Executive Director and Board Treasurer; provide support to the board treasurer so that he can do his/her monthly report to the board.
- Quarterly compare the current budget, and actual revenues and expenses and provide a report for the CEO and the Board of Directors.
- Coordinate and provide support to the annual audit process, liaise with external auditors and the finance committee of the board of directors.
- Oversee and provide support to the annual budgeting and planning process in conjunction with the Executive Director and the board treasurer; review all financial plans and budgets; monitor progress and changes;
- Help in the development, implementation and monitoring of an appropriate system of financial controls; including improving all necessary business, financial policies and accounting practices.
