Our team maintains, organizes, and preserves historical files andrepositories for USAFCENT and its assigned and attached subordinate units in perpetuity to allowthem to perform their missions successfully.

 

United States Air Force Central Command (USAFCENT) is the Air Force Service Component ofUnited States Central Command (USCENTCOM), a joint Department of Defense combatantcommand responsible for U.S. security interests in 27 nations that stretch from the Horn of Africathrough the Persian Gulf region, into Central Asia. This position supports USAFCENT HistoricalOfficer (HO).

 

The Historian Organizational Administrator supports the History Office as it collects and organizes 9AF (AFCENT) (including its assigned and attached subordinate units) historical data from all typesof documentation e.g., reports, papers, databases, briefings, emails, spreadsheets, media images,etc. The Administrator will help capture and organize relevant materials affecting 9 AF (AFCENT)produced by higher headquarters. Transfer historically significant unclassified materials to theclassified side (NIPR to SIPR) for use in producing periodic history report. The Administratormanages two of the Historian Office’s programs, Historical Depository and Deployed HistorianProgram.Historical Depository Program: Maintain, organize, and preserve historical files and repositories for9 AF (AFCENT) and its assigned and attached subordinate units. Store materials in appropriatecontainer or electronic-based media based on classification. In consultation with the Air ForceHistorical Research Agency (AFHRA) and office archivist, review repository materials fordowngrade/declassification and mark materials accordingly. Also, in consultation with AFHRA andoffice archivist, if materials are no longer needed, destroy or mail to appropriate agency. Liaisewith AFHRA for 9 AF (AFCENT) and air expeditionary wing (AEW) history report production. Burndiscs and mail history reports for 9 AF (AFCENT) and its assigned and attached subordinate units.Inventory 9 AF (AFCENT) and AEW histories annually to ensure congruence with AFHRA database.Provide regular updates of program status to office chief.Deployed Historian Program: Prepare, plan, organize, and track status of all security andcommunication aspects of deployed historian program, reservist records management programand cadet/ROTC summer program. Responsible for initial contact and completion of requiredpaperwork to build accounts and receive building entry badges commensurate with level ofsecurity clearance. Provide accesses to History Office SharePoint, shared drive files, andorganizational inboxes. Train deployers, reservists, and cadets on its usage. Build award packagecore for individuals for office chief and track award status throughout entire process. Provideregular updates to office chief on all aspects of these programs.

 

The Administrator will also aid USAFCENT Historian to prepare, plan, organize and track status ofsite visits from researchers including, but not limited to, DoD internal personnel, Washington thinktanks, and private citizens. Process building entry badge requests and, if requests include accessto classified materials, process required paperwork commensurate with level of security clearanceneeded. Provide accesses to History Office SharePoint and shared drive files in accordance withoffice chief’s direction. Train researchers on its usage. Provide regular updates to office chief on allaspects of visits from researchers.Additional tasks and responsibilities required by this position include but are not limited to;

  • Build classified and unclassified SharePoint sites supporting deployed historians andUSAFCENT units. Maintain historical and administrative content and applications.
  • Coordinate various efforts on combat-related special compensation claim workload frominitial requests from wounded warriors to completion of requested information.
  • Prepare,organize and track status of analysts performing additional duty from various intelligencefunctions on base to assist in building database. Update office chief monthly.
  • Update SIPR and NIPR RFI database. Use database in additional to other sources to producesemi-annual Historical Activity Report for functional HHQ, which documents accomplishmentsand contributions of 9 AF (AFCENT) History Office.
  • Manage office’s Freedom of Information program and liaise with Communications Directorate.Prepare all required paperwork for responses and upload in TMT. Track status of FOIAs andapprise office chief of status.
  • Manage office publications, instructions, and other guidance. Liaise with CommunicationsDirectorate. Coordinate with all applicable internal and external agencies.
  • Represent office at meetings requiring special staff representation and historian cannotattend.
  • Liaise with Resource Advisor/Financial Management for office’s funding of activities such ascadet/ROTC summer program, archival management purchases, etc.
  • Assist with management of office’s security program.
  • Responsible for maintaining office battle rhythm. Post key meetings on calendar(s).Coordinate calendars for office and for office chief.
  • Assist office custodian with safes and records (may include NATO materials), accountableequipment (computers, printers), and copier/scanner.
  • Assist with office safety program.
  • Liaise with 9 AF (AFCENT)/A3T and CCP for office participation in senior leader orientations.
  • Receive official mail and any associated forms and packaging required for mailing classifiedmaterials. Update key personnel rosters and current contact information on SharePoint and internal office materials.
  • Maintain office supplies, special archival materials, and equipment.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • High School Degree / GED
  • Active Secret Clearance
  • Five years’ experience (can be combined with military/contractor) with 9 AF (AFCENT)mission.
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in information management.
  • Two years’ experience in Microsoft Office.
  • One year experience in SharePoint technology, SharePoint site development and administration, and records management.
  • One year experience supporting DoD Protocol or Civilian equivalent offices, as well as oneyear supporting or performing as a resource adviser.
  • One year experience in the following DoD unit programs: Security, Awards & Decorations,Records Management, Task Management systems (i.e., Task Management Tracker (TMT)),Supporting US Military Reserve Units/Personnel and Safety programs.
  • Ability to travel = 10%

  • Associates Degree
