Minimum Qualifications: 
High school or equivalent and either graduate of an AVMA accredited veterinary technician program or Military Occupational School (MOS: 68T –Animal Care Specialist) or RVT, CVT or LVT certified or eligible for certification (must be obtained within 1 year of hire) or validated completion of the Military Occupational School (MOS: 68T - Animal Care Specialist) or High school or equivalent and four (4) years of related experience with an emphasis on veterinary technician skills.

Preferred:

  • Registered Veterinary Technician.
  • Experience in evaluating and developing educational programs, skills and training.
  • Strong oral and written skills.

 


Job Summary: 
To provide technical expertise in all aspects of veterinary anesthesia, aseptic surgery support, pre-operative and post-operative care, veterinary clinical and laboratory services, technical and husbandry support services using appropriate equipment and established procedures in all facilities up to an Animal Biological Safety Level 3 (ABSL-3) environment. Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOJ clearance.

 


Job Duties: 

  • Ensures all federal, state, and local regulatory statues, including facility standard operating procedures (SOPs), regarding humane animal care and use are followed. 
  • Administers veterinary treatments as directed. 
  • Provides technical support for researchers. 
  • Assists in the development of and provides training for any special techniques necessary to support the research program and mission. 
  • Participates in daily veterinary rounds and health checks. 
  • Collects samples and processes diagnostic tests. 
  • Monitors and cares for pre-operative and post-operative veterinary patients. 
  • Performs anesthetic induction, maintenance, and monitoring. 
  • Provides aseptic surgical support. 
  • Cleans and sets up operating room and surgical packs. 
  • Operates and maintains medical and surgical equipment. 
  • Exposes and develops radiographs. 
  • Maintains surgical and veterinary records. 
  • Maintains knowledge of biohazard and containment operations. 
  • Monitors overall facility operations, including all security, safety, and maintenance standards for a high containment facility. 
  • Maintains professional and collegial interpersonal skills with peers, subordinates, superiors, and guests. 
  • Adheres to internal controls established for department. 

 

 

Salary Range: 
Actual salary commensurate with experience.
