SEIU Local 1000 is a cutting-edge union representing 96,000 California state employees and is recruiting an Attorney to work in our office in Fresno, California.
This is an excellent opportunity to practice labor and employment law. Our staff attorneys perform a wide variety of legal work representing SEIU Local 1000 and its members in a variety of proceedings, including administrative hearings, arbitration and courtroom settings.
Duties:
- Represent individuals for the Union and/or the Union in high level litigation, unfair labor practice charges, disciplinary hearings, and arbitrations
- Provide analysis and counsel on legal issues regarding collective bargaining, representation and other issues
- Prepare legal pleadings, motions, discovery and stipulations
- Write, review, and edit briefs, reports and correspondence
- Conduct internal investigations
- Strategically plan efforts and prioritization of cases
- Interpret, analyze and apply labor agreements to fact patterns
- Advise officers, members, stewards, officials and staff
- Organize and manage databases and case documents
- Ability to work long hours including evenings and weekends as necessary or travel periodically
- Other duties as assigned
Eligibility:
- Graduation from a law school accredited by the American Bar Association
- Active membership in the State Bar of California
- Valid driver's license, car and insurance
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- Knowledge of labor and employment law
- Prior experience helpful, but not required
- Excellent writing and analytical skills
- Ability to establish and maintain rapport and credibility with diverse demographic groups, as well as with professional, technical, administrative and service workers
- Knowledge of California’s State Personnel Board, CalHR, and individual State Departments is preferred
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to listen actively and articulate issue
- Proficient in Microsoft applications
Salary ranging from $7,384 to $10,669 monthly
