Job Summary
The Cashier receives cash from customers or employees in payment for goods or services, record amounts received, compute or re-compute bills, itemized lists, tickets showing amount due using adding machine or cash register. Makes change, cash checks and issue receipts or tickets to customers. Read and record totals shown on cash register tape, verify against cash on hand, and prepare reports of transactions. The Cashier may make credit card transactions and may be required to know value and features of items for which money is received. This worker may give cash refunds or issue credit memorandums to customers for returned merchandise, operate ticket-dispensing machine, sell candy, cigarettes, gum and gift certificates, and issue trading stamps.
Primary Duties

Operate cash register entering price, displaying cost of customer purchase and tax on monitor screen in compliance with the company policies
Make change and issue receipts to customers for each purchase
Record amounts received and prepare end of the day report of transactions
Read and record totals shown on cash register tape and verifies against cash on hand, recording any overages or shortages
Assist in maintaining a neat and clean appearance on sales floor. This includes but is not limited to: collection of empty hangers, re-hanging clothing cast on racks or floors, and clean out dressing room hourly.
Additional Responsibilities
Assist with changing floor displays as needed (generally a minimum of two times per week).
Assist customers with questions or complaints.
Answer the store phone in a timely, polite, and professional manner.
Perform other responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications: Education, Experience and Certifications
High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) preferred.
One (1) year retail experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Must be a well-organized and self-directed individual who is a team player.
Must possess good customer skills, including but not limited to listening, and speaking.
Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form Must possess basic math skills in order to properly handle currency and make change.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.
Ability to write simple correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on- one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.
Basic ability to operate a computer using Microsoft Office Software.
Basic ability to operate a cash register.
