What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fiber Optic Technician position at Setra?
Gems Setra is looking to add a critical new employee who possesses a positive demeanor, is detailed and process-oriented, and demonstrates strong collaboration skills to join their team as a Fiber Technician. This person will primarily be responsible for drawing the fiber optic strands used in fiber optic cable assemblies. This includes intimate knowledge of the process and the equipment used to produce optical fiber. The ideal candidate also be responsible assembling variations of Fiber optic cable assemblies and working with engineering to produce custom fiber optic assemblies.
Essential Functions :
Setting up and performing glass and quarts draw tower operations to fulfill the requirements of the customer.
Operating, light preventative maintenance, and light repair of Fiber drawing equipment.
Cutting, epoxying, combing, and polishing of fiber assemblies using grinders and polishers
Mechanical assembly of standard and custom fiber cable assemblies.
Driving order report to meet customer demands on time.
Kitting assembly parts using a Bill of Material for Fiber cable assemblies.
Working with engineering to produce custom cable assemblies.
Performing various computer functions in MS office and ERP System (JD Edwards).
All other duties as assigned

Education & Experience Required:
High school diploma or equivalent required
2 years experience in a manufacturing environment
Exhibits high quality assembly techniques
Capable of performing controlled experiments and recognition of critical variables
Able to write and communicate clear process instructions
Have the ability to learn mechanical inspection using hand tools, calipers, Micrometers, etc.
Be skilled in learning how to read a mechanical blueprint.
Experience with Microsoft office programs
Desired Skills:
Experience in machining and/or precision mechanical assembly.
Experience with fiber optics
Experience reading mechanical drawings
