KCPC Director of Inpatient Evaluation Services

Job Description: PURPOSE Under general supervision, the Director of Inpatient Forensic Services’ responsibilities are split between administrative, clinical, and teaching and supervision of staff, practicum students, and interns at the Kentucky Correctional Psychiatric Center (KCPC). KCPC uses a multi-discipline approach (Psychiatry, Psychology, Medical, Social Workers, Correctional Officers, etc.) to complete forensic competency evaluations, competency restoration, and criminal responsibility evaluations for pre-trial patients. KCPC also provides inpatient treatment for individuals who have been adjudicated incompetent to stand trial and are held on a civil commitment order. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Oversees inpatient competency evaluation process for patients ordered to KCPC under KRS 504.080 and KRS 504.110. Assigns psychological testing and liaises between psychologists and medical providers regarding psychological testing needs and results. Maintains the testing inventory. Directs patient activities for the behavioral health needs of psychiatric patients including the identification/development of evidence-based group therapy modalities. Contributes to a safe and therapeutic environment by practicing and modeling verbal de-escalation and, as authorized, other behavior management techniques. Administers First Aid and CPR, as needed. Communicates information relevant to care, treatment, and services, with other KCPC staff members and, as authorized, with non-KCPC providers, to ensure appropriate level and quality of care. May take responsibility for specific assignments within the program including completion of competency evaluations Documents services and care provided by timely completing various forms (e. g., attendance records, daily logs, shift/progress notes, incident reports, time reports) in accordance with facility and regulatory standards. Maintains confidentiality of protected health information, consistent with facility procedures and state and federal law. Attends and participates in all required staff and service planning meetings and trainings. Identifies training needs of the inpatient department and provides training opportunities for staff. Collaborates with other direct support staff on assigned shift/unit. Other duties required for high-quality patient care that are rooted in best practices. EDUCATION Doctoral degree in psychology, and is a licensed psychologist in Kentucky with Health Service Provider designee. EXPERIENCE More than five years experience in forensic psychology. Ability to conduct specific research in the field of forensic psychology. Excellent organizational, verbal, writing, analytical, and interpersonal technical skills are required. Ability to adapt to a changing environment.
