What are the responsibilities and job description for the SGC-SuE B Technician I position at SGC Engineering LLC?
We are currently accepting resumes for Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE LEVEL B) Technicians / Utility Locators to work in support of large-scale linear energy infrastructure projects throughout the United States. As our SUE Technician, you will help perform subsurface utility location and should be able to effectively operate ground penetrating radar (GPR) systems and radio-frequency electromagnetic pipe and cable locators. The candidate should also possess the desire to accept additional responsibilities and support a variety of projects in various capacities.
Responsibilities for the SUE B Tech include:
- Application of standard field and office-related techniques in carrying out a sequence of related tasks
- Exercise of judgment is required on details of work and in making preliminary selections and adaptations of alternatives.
- Complete One-Call and utility research for assigned projects.
- Operate geophysical equipment including pipe and cable locators and ground-penetrating radar to identify and mark existing underground utilities.
- Prepare sketches and reports of utilities/features marked.
- Coordinate with and assist the Project Manager and other staff with various tasks related to a variety of projects.
- Operate and maintain in good working order, a variety of geophysical and survey equipment.
- Assist staff with less experience to properly learn the operation and use of equipment.
Supervisory Responsibilities
The supervisor screens assignments for unusual or difficult problems and selects techniques and procedures to be applied to non-routine work. Receives supervision on new aspects of assignments.
May supervise or coordinate the work of other technicians, and others who assist in specific assignments.
Qualifications for the SUE B Tech include:
- Computer competencies
- AutoCAD drafting
- Microsoft Office applications
- Working knowledge of ESRI platform is a plus but is not required
- 2 to 5 years of utility designating/locating experience of various utilities required; energy infrastructure experience preferred
- Professional licensure is preferred
- Proficient in the use of Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR)
- Experience with radio detection equipment
- Knowledge and proper use of all field equipment and office download software
- Ability to travel out of town for short-term
- Ability to represent themselves and company in a professional manner to clients and general public
- Meet data quality and production rate standards
- Possess ability to cross train and to be multi-disciplined in various applications as new tasks arise
- Ability to lift, carry & navigate equipment through rough and uneven terrain
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Must successfully complete drug screening and background check, including 7-year criminal history check and Motor Vehicle Record check.
- Valid driver’s license required
- Associates or Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Geomatics, or Surveying from an ABET-accredited curriculum preferred

Salary : $37,700 - $47,800
