Veterinary assistant and/or veterinary technician wanted for fast-paced West Little Rock Veterinary Clinic. Full-time position. Must be available on weekends. Rate of pay is based on relevant experience. Veterinary assistants support the veterinarians and veterinary technicians in ensuring quality veterinary care for all patients.
Veterinary technicians assist the veterinarian directly in examinations, treatments, and surgery, ensuring quality veterinary care for all patients.
Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Provide exceptional customer service at all times.
- Obtains, prepares, and analyzes laboratory specimens in the clinic. Prepares laboratory specimens for transport to a diagnostic laboratory.
- Assist the veterinarian in and prepares materials for examinations, treatments, and surgery.
- Takes medical histories and vital signs of patients.
- Enters patient charges for exams and hospitalization into the computer system.
- Receives, processes, and records prescription refills.
- Admit and discharge patients from the hospital.
- Stocks hospital materials (vaccines, syringes, etc.) and maintains inventory so that additional supplies can be ordered.
- Performs general housekeeping duties (cleaning kennels, laundry, etc.)

- Education – Minimum requirement of a high school diploma. Hospital experience preferred for veterinary assistant position. Minimum 1 year hospital experience and/or CVT/RVT license for veterinary technician position.
- Language Ability – Ability and read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees at the clinic.
- Math Ability – Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure. Ability to compute rates, ratios, and dosages.
- Reasoning Ability – Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Computer Skills – To perform this job successfully, the individual will need to become competent with veterinary software. Previous experience with Cornerstone is preferred.
- Physical Demands – The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand for periods up to 6 hours at a time. The employee is frequently required to walk, reach with hands and arms, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb.
