POSITION SUMMARY
Shakespeare & Company is seeking Kitchen Assistants for its residential winter Actor Training program (the Month-long Intensive). Candidates should have an understanding of a working kitchen or the ability to learn quickly, be team players, and be able to work under the direction of the Food Services Manager around meal planning, preparation, and serving buffet style. Positions start on/about December 28, 2022 and end on/about January 31, 2023. Work days will be Tuesdays through Sunday and the schedule will vary weekly.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide support in preparing all meals in a cafeteria setting.
- Assist with receiving food and supplies.
- Ensure that all menu items are labeled accurately.
- Keep all refrigeration, storage, utensils, equipment, and working areas in clean, working condition in compliance with Department of Health Regulations.
- Display ability and willingness to work all stations in the kitchen.
- Practice “Teamwork” and “Clean as you go” policies.
- Be dependable and timely for scheduled shifts.
- Adhere to company policies/procedures and safe work practices and guidelines.
EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND CHARACTERISTICS
- Minimum 6 months experience working in food or culinary services preferred.
- Ability to concentrate and work safely in a noisy kitchen environment.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team, and follow directions.
- Ability to bend, reach, pull, and lift.
- Ability to transport supplies and boxes weighing up to 40 pounds.
- ServeSafe Handler certification is a plus.
- A commitment to values of equity and inclusion and the ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds, identities, abilities, and experiences.
- Completion of a COVID-19 vaccine regime, including booster.
COMPENSATION
This position is a temporary, non-exempt position. Rate of pay is $15.00 per hour for up to 40 hours per week. Over time, if incurred, will be paid at time and a half. Also included are most meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner on Tuesday through Sunday). Shared housing (private room, shared bathroom, and kitchen facilities) is also available.
