Overview
The Assistant Director of Environmental Services (EVS) leads departmental operations, staff supervision, and administrative functions, to ensure a high quality of cleanliness for patients, visitors, and staff, and a professionally managed environmental services program. This position provides insight to the Director regarding operational and financial performance, departmental goals, and key performance indicators. The Assistant Director leads managers, supervisors, and staff to implement the strategic plans and policies as set by the department and ensures staff are completing work in accordance with such goals and regulatory standards. This role conducts regular quality assurance surveillance, collaborates with the departmental stakeholders/customers to seek feedback regarding opportunities, and formulates action plans to recognize improvement. This position regularly reports operational performance status to leadership and implements strategies to optimize employee engagement, patient experience, operational/financial performance, and regulatory compliance. This role actively participates in direct responsibility of operational areas and provides coverage to managers/supervisors as needed to ensure sufficient staffing for EVS operations. The Assistant Director oversees supply inventory and equipment accessibility/functionality, as well as conducts timekeeping/payroll practices, recruitment interviews, employee relations, regulatory compliance, quality rounds, and performance evaluations for direct reports and staff. The Assistant Director covers for the Director of Environmental Services during absences.
Qualifications
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Bachelor's degree in hospitality, healthcare, business or related and 3 years of management experience in environmental services (preferably in healthcare) required. In lieu of degree, candidates must have 5 years of management experience in environmental services (preferably in healthcare). Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Professional (CHESP) credential preferred. Must have knowledge of health, safety, and industry regulatory agencies. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to prepare and deliver professional presentations as necessary. Preferred proficiency in MS Office Suite; experience in EVS software systems preferred. Prior experience must demonstrate proven success in leading teams to exceptional outcomes in a complex, fast-paced environment while providing outstanding service is required. Must demonstrate a positive, customer service and employee-oriented attitude. Must interface effectively with all members of the healthcare team to render exceptional service to customers. Prior experience must demonstrate the ability to respond to unexpected situations in a calm and productive manner, prioritizing the well-being of patients. Motor Vehicle Operator Designation: Employees in this Position: Will operate vehicle as a Non-frequent driver Licensure/Certification/ Registration: Certified Healthcare Environmental Services Professional (CHESP) credential preferred.
