Share Our Strengths Health Systems work primarily pursues opportunities to leverage health care systems and partners to increase access to federal nutrition programs and food access for children and families, especially SNAP. Reporting to the Associate Director, Health Systems, the Manager will be responsible for supporting the strategy, planning, implementation and evaluation of strategies to increase federal nutrition program and health food access within healthcares efforts to address social determinants of health. The Manager will be responsible for managing aspects of strategies related to Medicaid Food Security Network and well as the School-Based Health Centers and partnerships with health systems and place-based strategies in affordable housing to strengthen family enrollment in federal nutrition programs.
This position is preferably based in Washington, D.C. (hybrid 2 days in the office); but could be fully remote for the right candidate living outside of the DC area 30 miles or more. The position offers a range of $68K-$78K. Exact compensation within the stated salary range may vary based on skills, experience, internal equity, and geographical location.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and manage the slate of research and technical assistance resources to support the Medicaid Food Security Network Coalition policy agenda, as well as similar needs for the State Partners Program. Related activities include monitoring and analyzing Medicaid policy development and state-level activities related to leveraging Medicaid systems to address food insecurity. Oversee updates to policy for the MFSN Policy Digest and synthesize key findings into reports and briefs in support of the MFSN News Digest and quarterly Webinars.
- Manage the State Partners Program of the MFSN, including contracting, communications meetings, as well as the resources and research to support the state-level work.
- Manage place-based strategies and partnerships with affordable housing that connect low-income families with federal nutrition benefits such as SNAP and WIC.
- Management of partnerships and projects related to leveraging health systems such as School Based Health centers, Managed Care Organizations, Hospital systems and Federally Qualified Health Centers, all in service of integrating access to and participation in SNAP or WIC as part of health cares preventative services
- Collaborate with housing unit management to implement the communitys Nutrition in Housing plan and coach the enrichment services staff in working with residents and partners to implement the plan, its evaluation and to document best practices.
- Responsible for identifying and capturing learning, metrics, and best practices to achieve stated objectives and impact of benefits integration in health care and housing.
- Support the development and implementation of the integration of nutrition education with Health Systems partnerships to further broader team goals and impact.
- Contribute Benefits Integration in Health and Housing data to Program team dashboard to measure the impact of existing and cross-team health pilots.
- Contribute to the overall Health Systems strategic priorities, goals, partnerships, evaluation and reporting.
- Partner with colleagues to support Share Our Strength's work to be a diverse and inclusive organization, and ensuring those values are embedded in the organization and throughout our work.
- Approximately 20% Travel.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 3-5 years work experience in the field of community health, public health, health equity, or community anti-hunger interventions with a record of increasingly responsible positions. Experience with affordable housing residential facilities and Medicaid and health systems serving those with low socioeconomic status highly desirable.
- Ability to cultivate and maintain positive, mutually beneficial relationships, internally and externally. Ability to coach multiple partners to achieve partnership goals.
- Knowledge of and relationships with affordable housing residential facilities serving those with low socioeconomic status, and their funding mechanisms, as well as deep understanding of social determinants of health and health equity. Knowledge of food insecurity and its contributing factors, as well as federal nutrition programs and promising practices to end childhood hunger.
- MS Office proficiency (any additional programs/applications/software).
- Outstanding interpersonal and relationship management skills, including the ability to identify and work through challenges, underscored by strong judgment and emotional intelligence.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently on multi-step, detail-oriented projects in a fluid environment.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, including experience presenting to high-level audiences.
- Interest in anti-hunger and anti-poverty issues.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently.
