Pay Rate:                            The pay for this role is $66,560 annually.
 
Actual base pay will be determined based on permissible factors such as transferable skills, work experience, market demands and primary work location. The base pay range provided is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
 
Position Overview
The Deputy Director, Development & Girls/Women’s Hockey is a key member of the Sharks Ice Management team. The responsibility of the Deputy Director is to manage all elements of the San Jose Junior Sharks Girls/Women’s Hockey program as well as overall skill development pathway for the club through execution of a strategic vision, fostering a positive environment, and ensuring the development of players, families, and coaches.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Create, develop, and document overall annual strategy of the Junior Sharks Girls/Women’s Hockey program for the Junior Sharks under the guidance of the Director, Junior Sharks.
  • Create, develop, and document overall player development program that aligns with the overall Junior Sharks strategy. 
  • Create and implement a plan that articulates a skill development path for all players having aggressive developmental ambitions, including goals of playing Tier, Junior, NCAA or professional hockey.
  • Implement and own a coaches development program that aligns with the overall Junior Sharks strategy. 
  • Own the recruitment, selection, development, and evaluation of all Junior Sharks Girls/Women’s Hockey coaches in a manner which advances the quality and depth of our coaching staff. Ensure all coaches schedule and conduct evaluations for each club player during and after the season to establish goals, feedback and accomplishments.
  • Lead the Junior Sharks Girls/Women’s Hockey club tryout process, providing on-ice as well as off-ice support, and recommends players to appropriate teams that aligns with the Junior Sharks strategy.
  • Collaborate with all Girls/Women’s Hockey teams to ensure they compete at the appropriate level, play the appropriate schedule of games and tournaments that aligns with the Junior Sharks strategy.
  • Oversight of skill specific on ice training program that aligns with Junior Sharks strategy.
  • Lead and own the GGHAT program.
  • Oversight and own overall Junior Sharks website and marketing content strategy.
  • Plan, develop and organize on- or off-ice clinics to meet the development needs of Junior Sharks players in a fiscally responsible manner.
  • Work hand in hand with the Deputy Director, Junior Sharks Operations on scheduling, and budget formulation.
  • Serve in appropriate leadership roles, representing the Junior Sharks Club to CAHA, NORCAL, USA Hockey and other hockey governing organizations as required to benefit the advancement of the club goals.
  • Serve on interdepartmental committees as requested or required.
  • Upholds and maintains the policies and procedures of the ice arena.  
  • Recommends supplementary developmental uses of facility non-ice spaces to the Senior Director, Sharks Ice Hockey Operations, which facilitates the respective hockey programs and the needs of their support groups.
  • Assists in ensuring all policies and procedures are properly implemented and followed.  
  • Knows emergency procedures for facility and guests.  
  • Attends company events and meetings
 
Minimum Qualifications
  • 4 years of relevant experience
  • Bachelors required in related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • 2 years of previous experience as a supervisor or program manager.
  • Possesses a record of high achievement as a hockey player or a hockey coach. 
  • Previously experience in organizing, developing, and conducting quality hockey camps, schools, clinics and hockey leagues.
  • Outstanding interactive skills that will support the organization’s efforts to develop an acclaimed and productive community hockey facility and instructional/developmental program.  
  • Excellent written, verbal, and public communication skills. Ability to deliver public speeches in a persuasive manner.
  • Ability to work well with youth and adults including parents of participants and to develop and maintain a positive relationship with customers. 
  • Strong ability to collaborate with colleagues and other stakeholders.
  • Excellent people skills with the ability to build strong relationships with stakeholders.
  • Must accommodate flexible working hours, including nights, weekends and holidays.
 
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit, stand and utilize a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Communicate via phone and email with a variety of individuals.
  • Ability to bend at the waist, reach overhead and lift to 15 lbs. with or without accommodation.
  • Physically navigate stairs and catwalks at SSE facilities during normal work hours and events with or without accommodation
  • Ability to work occasional extended hours including nights, weekends, holidays (all with advance notice)
