What are the responsibilities and job description for the Nurse position at Shaw Industries Group, Inc.?
The Occupational Health Nurse is responsible for providing the on-site promotion and restoration of health, prevention of illness and injury and protection from work related and environmental hazards.
Essential Duties:
- Provide direct employee care within the scope of the state’s nurse practice act.
- Provide treatment of work related injuries or illnesses following standards of protocol approved by a licensed physician who serves as Shaw Industries’ Medical Director.
- Provide and direct care of non-work related injuries or illnesses for employees as needed.
- Offer, conduct, and educate on associate health examinations ie blood pressure, pulse, oxygen levels, blood glucose, breath/heart sounds, ear exams, etc.
- Conduct, interpret and evaluate diagnostic testing and refer to physician when necessary.
- Engage or orchestrate virtual health opportunities between associate and his/her Primary Care Physician or Workers’ Comp panel provider as necessary.
- Given the need, provide injections of various vaccines, i.e. Tetanus, Flu, Covid, etc.
- Use and maintain approved employee health recordkeeping systems. Documentation will be in an approved format following accepted standards of nursing practice as mandated by the law and nursing profession. Both electronic and physical employee health records will be maintained and contain all required documents.
- Comply with regulatory requirements to maintain confidentiality of personal health information.
- Conduct OSHA required health surveillance of individuals/ groups for specific requirements (respiratory protection, DOT testing, vision screening).
- Will require an understanding of OSHA standards that meet recordability requirements and work with EHS to update and validate data.
- Provide health promotion, disease prevention, risk assessment, screening evaluations in accordance with best practice and partnership with external resources.
- Provide case management strategies for work related injuries/ illnesses. (Workers’ Compensation) Coordinate with third party administrator Resolutions Managers, medical personnel, appropriate plant management, as well as the associate.
- Understand state workers’ compensation laws with a goal of provision of quality health care along a continuum, decrease fragmentation of care, enhancement of injured workers’ quality of life, efficient utilization of care resources, and effective cost containment with a goal of returning the injured worker to employment. - Provide case management strategies for non-work related injuries/illnesses. Coordinate RTW following Leaves of Absence/absence (FMLA, STD, LTD) Coordination with medical personnel and appropriate plant management.
- Coordinate and direct health related training including CPR, First Aid, and AED certification, Blood borne pathogen training, and other required training as necessary.
- Maintain adequate medical supplies for the facility while remaining fiscally responsible.
- Provide, coordinate, and assess all drug and alcohol screening as approved in the HR drug policy. (Random, pre-employment, and for cause, etc.)
- Complete an approved return to work evaluation.
- Complete and coordinate requirements for all approved company sponsored health care strategies. To assist employees with understanding and completion of all requirements. This will include disease management strategies as well as health promotion and lifestyle management.
- Provide counseling and referral of all health questions within approved scope of nursing practice.
- Ability to work independently, provide timely feedback and communication, and prioritize responsibilities.
- Must be flexible in schedule to provide all services to employees during their scheduled work hours.
- Ability to provide and direct emergency care as needed.
Physical Requirements:
- Able to lift 10 pounds ten times per day.
- Able to sit and stand intermittently for an 8 hour period.
- Able to safely ambulate, without aid, through a manufacturing facility where, exposure to moving machinery exists.
- Able to walk up and down a flight of stairs.
- Able to hear adequately to perform hearing related assessments (BP, breath sounds, heart sounds).
- Adequate vision either corrected or uncorrected.
Other Requirements:
- Current CPR certification
- Ability to perform on call responsibilities and work off shift hours periodically.
- Must have a current and valid driver’s license.
- Must be able to work with confidential matter.
- Must have good knowledge of computer including word processing, email, spreadsheets, filing, and data collection.
Educational Requirements:
- Completion or post secondary education and licensure in nursing.
- Current nursing license (RN in the state of employment.)
- Certified Occupational Health Nurse preferred or ability to obtain certification after employment.
