Sales Tax Accounting Specialist

Job Title Sales Tax Accounting Specialist Position Overview Position Objectives: Maintain integrity of customer sales tax exemption records, analyze/approve tax credits and initiate sales tax-only invoices. Duties and Responsibilities: Analyze sales tax certificates from Shaw’s customers and determine the validity of the certificates. Assign the appropriate tax codes in the billing system (TXCU screen). Apply sales tax exemptions and approve credit on open tax debits Daily review of new customers, reinstated customers, customers with changes in company name or address, and customers taking debits. Determine necessary documentation utilizing TXCU, OCUS, KPAR, KATB, OIN2, MCUS and OCTL. Contact customers to request sales tax documentation. Assist customers regarding specific state requirements on the completion of sales tax exemptions. Process sales tax debits in the claims queue with guidance form Sales Tax Accountant II. Determine if appropriate documentation has been received to allow sales tax credit. Decline claims when customer has failed to provide required documentation. Approve removal of sales tax from CBD orders/quotes after verifying validity of exempt documentation. Monitor customers who failed to respond to certificate requests and change tax status accordingly. Initiate monthly sales tax-only invoices in the billing system to correctly charge sales tax to customers who failed to provide exempt documentation thereby fulfilling state sales and use tax compliance obligations. Assist with sales and use tax audits by retrieving requested certificates, reviewing for completeness and contacting customers for updated exemption certificates. Insure that all certificates received are accurately recorded in On base. Other responsibilities as assigned or necessary. Requirements: · Highschool Diploma or GED Preferred: Advanced understanding of sales and use tax certificates Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word GLINK, Onbase, Document Direct, Vertex Rate Locator Effective communication skills Ability to work and make decisions independently and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
