Shawnee Health is seeking a LPN-School Nurse for our opening at District 95 Carbondale Elementary School. This position reports directly to the District 95 School Nurse Manager.

Responsibilities

o Answers school telephone system, coordinates care of students with acute and chronic conditions, triages school emergencies. Provides services to students according to established protocol. Contacts students/parents by phone as needed to update and relay information regarding student. Changes/updates voice mail message as necessary.

o Orders supplies, maintains inventory of office and medical supplies, forms, etc., for the School Nurse function. Maintains pending and completed purchase order files.

o Maintains a working knowledge of community and area resources. Refers students to these resources as appropriate; refers students to other SHS resources as needed; may function as an advocate for the student in securing other services.

o Maintains and manages inventory of student medications and drugs in regular intervals, records all medications and injections given to students, and follows medication policies and procedures.

o Complies with policies and procedures regarding facility close down and security.

o Collects data to complete School Nurse Activities report twice yearly as directed by administrative staff.

o Assures that all medical supplies and equipment is maintained in proper working order, including cleaning of equipment. Reports any problems/malfunctions to administration or School Nurse Manager.

o Maintains an open nurse’s office at the assigned school for student’s needs. Provides first aid services for home and minor injuries that occurred during school.

o Assumes authority for the care of students or staff members who have suffered injury or emergency illness.

o Maintains up-to-date health records on students including insuring all students and new students comply with physical examinations, dental exams, eye exams and immunizations requirements.

o Contacts parents of ill or injured students and informs attendance office of excused absence.

Requirements

· Must have a valid Illinois driver’s license and auto liability insurance on personal vehicles.

· Must have a valid Illinois unencumbered nursing license to practice as a LPN.

· BLS certification must be maintained.

COVID-19 vaccination is a mandatory condition of employment. Absent an approved exemption/accommodation, all employees must be fully vaccinated by receiving both doses of a two-dose vaccine series (Pfizer or Moderna) or one dose of the single-dose vaccine (Janssen) at least fourteen (14) days prior to or on their first day of work. If not already vaccinated, new hires cannot begin work until they: (1) are fourteen (14) days post one dose of the single-dose vaccine (Janssen); (2) are fourteen (14) days post second dose of a two-dose vaccine series (Pfizer or Moderna); or (3) receive an approved exemption/accommodation. Employees who refuse COVID-19 vaccination in accordance with this mandate absent an approved exemption/accommodation will be considered to have voluntarily resigned from employment or, if an individual has not yet started employment, their offer of employment will be withdrawn. Shawnee Health Service reserves the right to not offer employment to unvaccinated individuals if staffing needs cannot accommodate a delayed start date.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $21.10 - $31.65 per hour
