Job Description
The Controller is a leadership position within the organization and will report to the CFO and the President & CEO. The Controller will work closely with project managers and company management to provide financial oversight, budgeting support and reporting for a multitude of international and domestic contracts. The Controller will supervise 3 accounting staff.
The Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:
- Compliance:
- Review and analyze financial data to ensure GAAP and FAR compliance.
- Ensure tax compliance in US and all relevant countries in which the company conducts business.
- Strategy and Innovation:
- Lead effort to prepare and follow through on accounting/financial requirements for USAID prime opportunities.
- Establish key performance metrics and financial ratios to measure and analyze results, initiate corrective actions, and minimize the impact of project losses.
- Analyze the organization’s operations, identify opportunities for improvement, and implement cost reduction and systems enhancement(s).
- Review and streamline or create accounting department policies and procedures.
- Management:
- Management and supervision of accounting team.
- Manage overhead rate structure(s).
- Manage daily cash requirements and prepare/submit monthly borrowing base reports.
- Project setup in ERP to ensure proper alignment with organizational structure and contract.
- Monthly close, account reconciliations and financial reports.
- All aspects of all annual corporate audits in timely fashion, from planning to execution.
- Collaboration:
- Provide information, specific analysis, and appropriate training to others on financial and budgeting issues, etc.
- Prepare/review cost proposals in conjunction with program and business development staff.
- Work with Contracts and PMs/Department heads to ensure contracts are properly managed.
- Lead the annual corporate budgeting exercise.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Minimum bachelor’s degree in accounting or similar field.
- CPA license strongly preferred, or other applicable certifications.
- Minimum 15 years of experience preferably in project accounting with either an engineering, architectural, design/build or international development company.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. Government contracting requirements; this must include experience with MCC, FAR, DCAA, etc. in some capacity.
- USAID experience strongly preferred.
- 5 years of supervisory experience of 3 or more staff.
- Due to the nature of work, must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident
Nice to Have:
- Experience with establishing and maintaining a NICRA strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with federal, state and county government contracting requirements.
- Experience with CostPoint 7 or above preferred.
- Experience with the donor bank contracting mechanisms and international project-based accounting preferred.
