County Director: Youth and Human Sciences Program Coordinator
This full-time position provides leadership in Shelby County to determine program priorities and deliver and evaluate high quality programs in Shelby County. Program needs assessment, delivery and evaluation will be in tandem with ISUE & O Program Specialists. The Extension Educator is under the supervision of the County Extension Council. This job consists of a full-time work week (40 hours) with occasional variability in work hours.
This position requires a positive team player that works with office staff and clients to operate successful programs. The individual will work closely with ISUEO program specialists, Region 12 program coordinators, and the Regional Director (RD).
Leadership
- Utilizes proactive approach with council in development of program and relevant agendas
- Initiates strategies to develop volunteer networks
- Offers comprehensive and complex programming to support long-term change, matching relevant information and programs with audience needs
- Conducts needs assessments and secures resources
- Sets goals related to reaching under-served and under-represented audiences
- 4-H Youth Development program/administration needs
- Provide supervision to county office employees and conduct day to day management
Program Delivery
- Assist various advisory and commodity groups as requested
- Work with staff and volunteers to answer consumer questions and respond to client requests for technical assistance
- Recruit and train volunteers in various Extension program materials
- Prepare promotional and follow-up articles/photos of Extension events and communicate
Extension work on the radio and Web site
- Make appropriate community contacts to develop additional program resources
- Consult with ISUE & O Program Specialists on current issues
- Work with volunteers to address 4-H program needs
- Implement research-based curriculums with other agencies/organizations
- Maintain appropriate records of educational activities
- Serve as coordinator for specific educational events that occur as part of the comprehensive program
- Use technology for program communication, trend monitoring, and locating information
- Conduct needs assessment activities
- Develop and report annual county Program of Work document (for Oct. 1-Sept. 30)
- Secure program sponsorship through appropriate fundraising efforts
- Report work in a monthly report to the Shelby County Extension Council
- Foster and contribute to a positive work climate with colleagues, advisory groups audiences, regional partners and counties
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
1) Team player, dependable, self-motivating and able to work with limited supervision
2) Bachelor’s degree, prefer course work in relevant subject matter or work experience (youth, families, agriculture
3) Teaching experience preferred
4) Must be able to pass a criminal background screening test, as required for 4-H volunteers & staff
5) Valid driver’s license, access to reliable transportation
6) Ability to work variable hours
