Exciting opportunity to lead behavioral health at a welcoming community hospital. Sheppard Pratt partners with Calvert to provide leadership and clinical expertise. Recently renovated, state-of-the art inpatient unit with 12 Adult beds and 6 adolescent beds. The small bed capacity provides a unique opportunity to lead personalized care and evidenced-based practice. There is also a flourishing partial hospital program with dedicated, stable staffing delivering therapy and day programming to the community. The director has close partnerships with the medical nursing leaders as well as shared governance, quality, and emergency services. This role combines the charm of community hospital work with national leadership in behavioral health care.
Summary:
The Director assumes 24-hour responsibility and accountability for nursing care in behavioral health.
The position requires knowledge and skill of professional nursing theory and practice, leadership in administration, principles of effective teaching, learning, and mentoring, fiscal management, and effective interpersonal relationships and communication.
The Director assumes responsibility for care of patients as they move through the areas of responsibility and into their next level of care.
Provides leadership and support to charge nurse staff, clinical educators and clinical staff using creative leadership to ensure best outcomes in high quality, compassionate patient and family care.
The Director works with medical staff and other health care professionals collaboratively.
The Director ensures development, implementation and evaluation of policies, programs and services consistent with the organization's mission, vision, values and strategic objectives.
Requires:
Written and oral communication skills and comprehensive knowledge of standards of nursing practice - acquired through completion of a Bachelor of Nursing degree. Master’s Degree preferred.
Must possess current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Maryland at the time of appointment and continuously throughout tenure in position.
Clinical and systems/administrative skills sufficient to supervise and provide guidance to a large nursing staff; manage and develop clinical programming required for the child, adolescent, and adult eating disorders patient population; and maintain positive relationships with referrers and medical staff - acquired through four to six years of progressively more responsible clinical experience, two to three years of which must have been in an inpatient setting.
Interpersonal skills sufficient to provide effective leadership for assigned personnel and to interact effectively with psychiatrically ill children, adolescent, and adult patients, their family members, visitors and a variety of Calvert Health department staff.
Analytical and problem-solving abilities necessary to effectively manage unit/program resources, collaborate in clinical program planning, identify appropriate measures of acuity for assigned patient population, and evaluate the quality of nursing care.
