Under the supervision of the Sherburne County Parks Coordinator, this position is responsible for park maintenance activities, conducting natural resources management practices, and supporting park programming efforts for Sherburne County.
This is a paid internship opportunity. We are looking for 2 Parks Interns who would be scheduled to work Monday through Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm starting as early as Mid-May. Performs Park Maintenance Activities

- Maintains trails, parks, and kiosks - using manual labor and grounds maintenance equipment such as forestry saws, loppers, herbicide dobber, pull behind blower, lawnmower, shovel and weed whip.
- Under supervision, conducts natural resource management practices, which may include invasive species removal, spot herbicide treatments, seed collection and dispersal, habitat restoration activities, vegetative surveys, forest health management and hazardous tree assessment
- Responsible for updating inventory and mapping of park amenities including but not limited to signs, benches and picnic tables
- Peforms manual labor associated with plant and tree installation, erosion control, watering and weeding.
- Installs and monitors Poetry Project panels along trails
- Assist with development of environmental education tools such as birding lists and plant lists for parks.
- Regular and timely work attendance
- Follows all safety procedures
- Participates in safety training
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to understand and follow applicable OSHA standards and departmental safety practices and procedures.
- Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods, and to perform strenuous physical labor under adverse environmental conditions.
- Ability to perform demanding physical labor.
- Ability to operate small trucks and park maintenance equipment.
- Ability to use a variety of hand and power tools.
- Ability to work as a member of team or independently on assigned projects; complete assigned duties in a productive and efficient manner.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions to complete a variety of tasks to meet the needs of the Parks Department.
- Must be at least eighteen (18) years old.
- High school graduate or equivalent or current high school student.
- Valid driver's license and good driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the use of grounds maintenance equipment.
- Natural resources interest, plant ID skills
