What are the responsibilities and job description for the Licensed Practical Nurse position at Sherute?
Job Summary: Provides assistance to various healthcare services following established MBC policies and protocols including but not limited to patient intake, obtains vital signs, electronic medical record management, patient triage (HPI, past medical history, surgical history, etc.), works closely with doctors and Physician Assistant. Acts as a liaison between doctors, patients and operating facilities. Assistant to clinical manager.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
LPN
- Coordinates and maintains an efficient workflow and completes necessary work for all providers.
- Screens calls for doctors and Physician Assistant and assists all doctors with their follow up calls and referrals.
- Calls pharmacy with Rx refills as advised by providers.
- Checks incoming faxes and distributes all patient results to doctors. Scans patient documents and imports them into the proper patient chart (this includes pathology reports and sending to the proper providers for review)
- Manages the genetic counseling/testing logging and the Cancer IQ program. Keeps track of all incoming genetic testing to ensure results are received and results are logged in EMR. Calls patients with results when advised by doctors and PA.
- Keeps record of all biopsies performed and follows up with laboratory if reports are not received.
- Coordinates surgeries with patient and surgeons, schedules surgeries and submits booking sheet to North Fullerton Surgical Center, Mountainside Hospital and CBMC when needed.
- Acts as liaison between operating room and Montclair Breast Center.
- Calls patients after surgery and relates information to surgeons, documents in EMR.
- Communicates with patient and family members regarding pre-operative procedure as needed.
- Collects all preoperative clearance (labs, EKG, chest x-ray and referring doctor medical clearance). Ensures all surgical procedures are authorized by insurance.
- Works efficiently, communicates with fellow staff members and doctors. Reacts well under pressure and always maintains a professional manner with patients and staff.
- Trains all new Medical Assistants and ensures staff coverage.
- Greets and prepares patients for appointments/procedures; conducts interviews with patients (i.e., new patient history or update established patient history) records information in EMR when needed.
- Ensures that Medical Assistants are performing their duties as assigned, including cleaning and stocking of the exam rooms in preparation for the next patient and the following day. As well as maintaining inventory of medical supplies and orders Tc99 injection for sentinel lymph node biopsy.
- Assists clinical staff with new projects and training as needed.
- Works closely with department manage and provides coverage when needed.
- Applies safety principles as identified by established policy and ensures HIPAA compliance in patient waiting areas, via telephone and email.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma.
- LPN Certification.
- 3 years working as a Licensed Practical Nurse.
- Bilingual in Spanish preferred but not required.
- Able to work collaboratively with multiple health professionals in a busy and complex environment using tact, diplomacy and discipline.
- Knowledge of computers and EMR.
- Ability to manage priorities and workflow with strong multitasking and problem solving skills.
