CORE RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS
Position-specific responsibilities – Protective &Marine Product Steward
Provide product stewardship support for the Protective & Marine business. Develop knowledge of product lines, end uses, and markets to identify relevant product regulations.
- Establish and maintain subject matter expertise in biocidal product regulations and food/water contact coatings.
- Implement processes to ensure products comply with relevant regulations.
- Develop and implement processes to ensure product documentation and collateral information sources (labels, SDS, EDS, VOC datasheets, TDS/PDS, websites, marketing literature) are accurate, consistent, and compliant.
- Coordinate with global counterparts within GPS/RA to develop and provide routine regulatory communications to key business contacts within the business.
- Represent GPS/regulatory affairs in new product development and product introduction processes.
Position-specific responsibilities – Manager
- Manage and support a team of analysts tasked with performing product label reviews and product impact assessments stemming from changes in regulation, formula, or chemical hazard information
General responsibilities of Manager I Position:
ESTABLISH INTERNAL/EXTERNAL STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP
- Leads and implements organizational strategy plans intended to achieve regulatory compliance and to meet business objectives as they relate to the specific area of scope.
- Promotes and maintains internal and external connections to support strategic partnerships; maintains alignment among functional management stakeholders to focus on desired outcomes.
- Partners with related organizations (either internal or external) to ensure that stakeholders are satisfied or that issues are resolved in a timely manner.
- Applies specialized knowledge of regulatory landscape to enhance relationships within business and takes responsibility for complying with applicable laws and regulations.
ANTICIPATE, ANALYZE, AND INTERPRET REGULATORY CHANGES
- Track and Manage Changing Regulation
- Monitor new and changing regulations applying to product compliance
- Support impact analysis and development of a compliance strategy for upcoming and/or changing regulations as they are related to SW and our products
- Fills a mid-level advisory role to business leadership on a range of issues; enables, leads by example, and influences an organization that uses technical resources to stay ahead of regulatory developments as applicable to area of scope.
- Collaborates with senior business and functional leaders so that they anticipate, identify, and assess emerging trends in regulations and best practices and benefit from the insights provided by the product stewardship organization; as a result, businesses or functions achieve tactical objectives and improve general customer satisfaction.
- Benchmarks company practices to other organizations and to the industry to identify and reactively address areas or processes of concern; is aware of what is required to successfully operate multi-regionally or regionally as it applies to the business or function
- Implements necessary strategies to ensure compliance with all laws, regulations, and company policies and provides leadership used to establish those procedures and tools to help reactively manage ongoing compliance process
RISK ASSESSMENT & SOLUTION/OPPORTUNITY IDENTIFICATION
- Coordinates and implements product stewardship programs that will accomplish short-term objectives; provides some oversight to analysis, assessment, evaluation, and auditing of relevant information.
- Shares specialized expertise with all stakeholders to respond to varied questions and concerns. Answers questions directly related to area of responsibility.
- Serves as an initial manager-level contact for regulatory inquiries from federal and/or public regulators; may present policies to external agencies to show policies’ compliance with statutory requirements.
- Takes first-level responsibility for establishing valid and compliant processes for qualification and certification in domestic or local markets where the organization does business. May perform transactional duties.
- Responsibilities may include project management, to include managing significant aspects of medium-scale, moderately visible, or complex projects, from start to finish; may contribute to design, communication, and implementation of operational plan for projects.
TALENT MANAGEMENT
- Coaches and develops a relatively small- or medium-sized product stewardship professional team within defined area of scope; identifies skill gaps, executes development plans, provides feedback, and addresses performance issues as instructed.
- Supports the implementation of an integrated talent acquisition and talent management program to attract, train, and develop a product stewardship professional team of analysts to ensure the achievement of an optimum level of workforce engagement
- Identifies skills and knowledge necessary for job performance; recognizes top performers among direct reports and identifies and removes barriers to high performance
- Delivers and completes performance management process in a timely fashion, including reviews, development planning, and may participate in performance calibration.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- FORMAL EDUCATION:
Required:
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution
Preferred:
- Master’s Degree from an accredited institution
- KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:
Required:
- 3 years’ experience in specific function
Preferred:
- 5 years’ experience in specific function
- TECHNICAL/SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
Required:
- Good communication and influencing skills
- Use of a wide variety of IT applications
- Familiarity with global chemical inventory regulations (TSCA, DSL, REACH, etc.)
- Knowledge of VOC regulations for coatings/adhesives and consumer products, including AIM coatings, aerosol coatings, mobile equipment refinish coatings, and consumer products
- Knowledge of hazard communication and product classification systems (Globally Harmonized System GHS), and application to product classification, SDS authoring, and product hazard labeling
Preferred:
- Previous experience as manager or team lead
