General Description

The Facility Specialist will create and support an outstanding environment for employees to work at the Auburn Hills office by providing facilities maintenance and technical services.

Significant experience in facilities maintenance, safety, and environmental regulations is required. The position requires in-depth customer focus and the ability to perform and manage the key accountabilities listed below.

Must be proactive and willing to take on challenging assignments and create opportunities where none exists. The Facility Specialist is considered a technical expert with superior customer service skills.

Must demonstrate strong analytical and problem-solving skills. The Facility Specialist will possess strong project management skills.

Key Accountabilities

Responsible for all activities related to the efficient operation, supervision and management of the building services.

This includes managing facility security, janitorial, cafeteria, landscaping and snow removal contractors.

  • Responsible for closing out the back lab area in the office and properly disposing of any remaining equipment.
  • Create Purchase Orders and ensure vendor invoices are entered for payment in a timely manner.
  • Maintain department monthly budget and forecast including cost savings activities and energy management to achieve superior performance.
  • Significant customer interface activities including phone, electronic and personal communication as necessary to support the needs of all employees at the Auburn Hills office.
  • Thorough knowledge of the architectural and engineering methods, practices and procedures of facilities construction and / or renovation.
  • Management of construction projects.
  • Respond to building and equipment alarms and emergency situations, 24 / 7.
  • Act as a conduit of information for upper management and communicate with all employees in building related emergency situations, power and service disruptions.
  • Proven knowledge of facility management as well as technical knowledge and skills related to plumbing, electrical and HVAC.

Must also have a working knowledge of systems furniture.

  • Manage the upkeep of equipment, building systems and life safety equipment to meet health and safety standards.
  • Manage shred service to properly dispose of confidential documents.
  • Handle all shipping and receiving.
  • Inspect building structures to determine the need for repairs or renovations.
  • Review utilities consumption and strive to minimize costs.
  • Control activities like parking space allocation, waste disposal and recycling.
  • Supports and coordinates event planning activities related to all employee meetings, customer events, investor day and tours of government officials.
  • Conducts space planning activities according to business unit requirements.

Education / Experience

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Preferred Bachelor degree in engineering, management, or related field
  • Minimum 5 years experience in engineering, manufacturing, or facilities specialist experience
  • Experience with general office computer tools (word processing, spreadsheets, office communications)

Physical Demands

  • Ability to work with computer keyboard / screen on a daily basis
