Lifeguard-Summer 2024 (PART TIME/FULL TIME)

The Bridgewater JCC is hiring lifeguards for Summer 2024. This position is Memorial Day to Labor Day located at our full service facility located in Bridgewater, New Jersey. We are looking for lifeguards who will be scheduled either Sunday through Thursday or Tuesday through Saturday for hours anywhere between 10am and 8pm. This position will start Saturday May 25th and be weekends only until we open full time the week of June 17th at which it will become full time through Labor Day weekend.

Pay Rate: $15.25-$16.25 an hour

Responsibilities include:

• Maintain active surveillance of the pool area.
• Know/review all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with policies and procedures. Complete related reports as required.
• Know, understand, and consistently apply safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area. Maintains accurate records as required by the JCC and/or the state Health Department code.
• Walk the perimeter of the pool scanning the bottom before taking over the lifeguard stand.
• Perform equipment checks and ensures appropriate equipment is available as needed.
• Check the pool for hazardous conditions when arriving.
• Perform chemical testing when not guarding, as required, and takes appropriate action.
• Attend all staff meetings and in-service training.
• Maintain effective, positive relationships with the members, participants and other staff.

Qualifications Include:

• 15 years of age or older
• Current American Red Cross Lifeguard certification or equivalent. Willing to provide training for the right candidate(s).
• Ability to maintain certification-level of physical and mental readiness
• Emotional resiliency and cognitive abilities to carry out job responsibilities
• Ability to establish and maintain appropriate professional relationships with members and peers
• Must demonstrate lifeguard skills in accordance with JCC and American Red Cross standards
