Shipyard Staffing is currently hiring for a QA Manager who has NDT Level 2 or Level 3 for work in Norfolk, VA.
QA Manager Pay Range: $30 - $35
Hours: 40 hours per week. Schedule is Monday- Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Occasional overtime and weekend work may be required based on production needs.
NDT Level II Inspector Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Must have satisfactorily completed a minimum of five years in quality Assurance organization with demonstrated progressive experience, in addition, must possess working knowledge of ships and knowledge of shipyard craft functions.
- Conduct NDT Visual Inspections (VT) and Liquid Penetrant Inspections (PT).
- Write NDT VT and PT reports.
- Verify weld process and filler material before performing NDT inspection.
- Coordinate and schedule checkpoint callout requests.
- Communicate and coordinate with Supervisor’s on inspection statuses as needed.
- Review job specifications to identify system requirements for special system/structure as they pertain to military standards in support of contracts for bidding purposes.
- Ability to read the work specification, verify that the information in the specification is correct by reading the print or drawing identified in the specification. Use that information to assign the proper level of control and inspection requirements.
- Support QA Manager in all TIP (test and inspection plan) functions both as prime and sub-contractor roles.
- Conduct TIP reviews with Production.
- Ensure TIPs are current and updated as needed.
- Ensure OQEs are processed properly (i.e. submit Final Checkpoint to customer).
- Perform general QA surveillance and hot work surveillance on current contracts.
- Must be familiar with welding and brazing fabrication standards described in NAVSEA Standards Item #009-12.
- Must be able to read prints and specifications.
- Ensure test equipment is maintained in an acceptable calibrated condition.
- Support in preparation and maintenance of test and inspection plans IAW Navy Standard item 009-004
- Must demonstrate skills in QA organization, shipbuilding/repair disciplines
- Strong computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office
Qualifications:
- 5 years related experience and/or training
- Must be certified Level II NDT Inspector
- Fluent utilization of NAVSEA Standard Items, Technical Documents and Military Standards
- Ability to work onboard ships; climb ladders, scaffolds, work in confined spaces and on platforms off of the ground
- Knowledge of OSHA 1915 Shipyard Safety
- Shipboard repair experience as a civilian contractor preferred
- Must demonstrate skills in QA organization, shipbuilding/repair disciplines
- Strong computer skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office
NDT III Job Duties and Responsibilities:
The Non-Destructive Testing Examiner III (NDT III) inspects work of all departments to ensure that all parts, modules, assemblies, procedures, and work instructions are followed. The Non-Destructive Inspector will ensure that all testing to be accomplished is IAW Work Specifications, Blueprints, Tech Manuals, Mil-Specifications and Standard Items. An NDT Level III individual should develop, qualified and approved procedures, establishing and approving techniques, interpreting codes, standards, specifications, and procedures, as well as designating the NDT methods, techniques, and procedures to be used. The NDT Level III should be responsible for the NDT operations for which he is qualified and assigned and should be capable of interpreting and evaluating results in terms of existing codes, standards, and specifications. The NDT Level III should have sufficient practical background in applicable materials, fabrication, and product technology to establish techniques and to assist in establishing acceptance criteria when none are otherwise available. The NDT Level III should have general familiarity with other appropriate NDT methods, as demonstrated by an ASNT Level III Basic examination or other means. The NDT Level III, in the methods in which he is certified, should be capable of training and examining NDT Level I and II personnel for certification in those methods.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS / DUTIES:
Witnesses or performs and documents (I) (V) and (G) point inspections and other tests at key points in the work process. Ensure all QA inspection equipment being utilized is calibrated and is certified under the company's calibration process/programs. Performs other duties/tasks as assigned by QA Supervisor or QA Manager PHYSICAL DEMANDS The Non-Destructive Inspector II must be able to meet and successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The following physical demands are representative to the position. The position is active and requires extensive standing, walking, sitting, bending, kneeling, stooping, crawling, climbing, and crouching. Additional demands are listed below: ? KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS:
Ability to troubleshoot welding problems ? Employee must be able to evaluate the use of various resources and make knowledgeable decisions regarding safety and company standards and policies. Able to read a tape measure and pass the written weld test (Workmanship Training). Ability to use the following: Fillet Weld Gauges, Pit Depth Gauge, V-Wac Gauge, and 6” Rule. Ability to read and understand Work Specifications, Blueprints, Standard items, and Mil-Standards. Pass NDT Level III training COMPETENCIES Communication Proficiency Flexibility (Job duties & schedule). Work well with others in all areas where SCW&M is performing work Follow verbal/written instructions. Able to work independently Teamwork orientation SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILTY Non-Destructive Inspector position has no supervisory responsibilities.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Must have a minimum of 5-7 years of ship repair / shop experience and qualifications. ASNT certified in VT, PT, with current certification.
