General Summary

The Senior Financial Analyst will serve as the primary internal specialist responsible for providing critical analytical support for Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement functions including related audits and appeals.

Principal Responsibilities

The Senior Financial Analyst:

  1. Maintains current knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid and other State and Federal regulations.
  2. Researches reimbursement and regulatory issues and provides analyses to appropriate stakeholders
  3. Provides critical support for audits and reviews including Medicare cost report and state filings.
  4. Reviews, analyzes and interprets executed insurance contracts, government regulations and other noncontracted business reimbursement methods.
  5. Participates in maintenance of Patient Account Receivable and Contract Management systems to evaluate historical and expected payment averages.
  6. Analyzes revenue and contractual adjustment variances against both budget and historical trend, by both payer and business segment to inform Finance and Clinical Leadership about operational performance.
  7. Investigates discovered payment variance for contract non-compliance.
  8. Performs contract modeling in support of payor negotiations.
  9. Develops and maintains financial models related to potential changes in federal programs or managed care and proactively identifies opportunities for revenue growth based on changing regulations.
  10. Maintains industry knowledge related to healthcare finance trends, including value-based payment and subsequent financial risk models.
  11. Performs all other duties that may be assigned in the best interest of the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab.

 

Reporting Relationships

  1. Reports to the VP, Corporate Finance

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.
  2. Five or more years of experience working in Healthcare Finance, Patient Financial Services, Managed Care, Healthcare Reimbursement, Healthcare Cost Accounting or Healthcare Decision Support.
  3. Minimum three years of financial analyst experience, preferably in a healthcare environment.
  4. Working knowledge of healthcare billing, reimbursement, clinical operations, and/or healthcare revenue cycle operations.
  5. Proficiency with Excel.
  6. Experience with Business Intelligence tools such as Tableau desired.
  7. Ability to communicate (verbally and in writing) in a clear and concise manner.
  8. Ability to develop and/or present content to senior leaders and other groups.
  9. Proven ability to apply critical thinking and analytic skills to formulate recommendations and resolve problems.
  10. Ability to work independently under minimal supervision with a wide degree of creativity and latitude. May manage projects independently or lead/direct the work of others.
  11. Ability to work in a high pressure, deadline oriented, and complex health care environment.

 

 

Working Conditions

  1. Normal office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.
